The Medical Assistant will assist Physicians and other Providers by preparing procedure trays, ensuring adequate supplies for the department and assisting with patient care.
Schedule: The hours are 7/7:30a-5/5:30p but can vary by provider and day working. 4-5 days per week from Monday through Friday. Travel may be required to Columbia, Mt. Airy, or Eldersburg.
- Escort p atient to exam room and confirm first & last name & DOB .
- Obtain and record vital signs.
- Organize patient flow .
- Setup p rocedure tray, instruments, and equipment according to i nstructions .
- Prepare Path/lab specimens, route to correct lab directed by patient insurance plan .
- Respond to patient questions in office and on phone as instructed .
- Check to-dos/Nurse line .
- Calibrate, clean, sterilize and inventory all equipment & instruments according to schedule . Keep appropriate records of maintenance.
- Maintain medication supplies, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records .
- Maintain infection control and make sure s upply rooms and cabinets are stocked.
- Ordering, sorting, restocking and inventory of all supplies.
- Document all medical instructions given to patients , thoroughly review wound care with patients when applicable.
- Anesthesia/Inject for p rocedures.
- Ensure all phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail are addressed in a timely manner .
- Must maintain HIPAA compliance
- Able to triage patient problems.
- Be familiar with and compliant OSHA/HIPAA , infection control & Blood Borne Pathogen S tandards .
- Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
- Experience administering injections.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 codes.
- Knowledge of office financial policies .
- Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization .
- Able to operate standard office equipment ( i.e. computer, fax, copier, scanner, etc )
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Fluent in English
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Ability to work in an effective , cooperativ e, and courteous manner with staff , patients, and visitors.
- Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team
- Ability to read , understand and follow oral and written instruction .
- Ab ility to spell, sort and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically .
Education and Experience:
- High School Graduate or GED .
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
- CPR certified preferred .
- Completion of a formal medical assistant program with internship.
- 1-2 years of recent experience as a medical assistant
- Previous experience in Dermatology is pre ferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Standing and walking for extended periods of time
- Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing.
- Use of hands and fingers.
- Talking and listening in person and on the telephone.
- Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc.
- Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
- Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
