The Manager Environmental Health & Safety is responsible for implementing , overseeing and adapting policies and programs to improve the organization's health and safety so that all employees have a safe and healthy working environment and the organization complies with all current and future regulations and laws. This position will apply principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services. This position will also lead and direct the safety function of all domestic Klein locations, conducting periodic on-site facility audits to check for compliance.
- Maintain a continuing, up-to-date knowledge base with regards to changes in legislation and regulation, with respect to employee health and safety, the environment and facility effluent flows and emissions and acts as an internal consultant to management with respect to all issues relating to employee health and safety and the environment and our operations within it.
- Recommend changes to working conditions to ensure all employees have a safe and healthy working environment and the organization complies with all regulations and laws, and internal safety policies and standards.
- Perform air quality testing, effluent stream sampling, flow testing and monitoring and miscellaneous sample collection and testing activities, as necessary, to verify compliance with applicable local, state and federal rules and regulations.
- Investigate accidents, complete or verify accident reports, and liaise with specialists and health and safety authorities to identify the cause of accidents and corrective actions to prevent their recurrence.
- Educate and train the organization's workforce on health and safety to ensure they understand and comply with the health and safety policies and standards.
- Maintain databases for material data safety sheets and responds to requests for information about substances used in the workplace and assists with the administration of the Corporate Loss Prevention Intranet site.
- Coordinate all interaction with local, state and federal regulatory agencies regarding employee health and safety and environmental issues, including, but not limited to, the preparation of all documents, reports, license applications, permits, etc.
- Assist on internal and external project audits, inspections and senior management site tours.
- Assist project team in supervision, coordination and implementation of site safety program, and risk assessments, preparation and updating of site-specific safety manual, including project emergency action procedures, work assignments and pre-task planning, personnel administration, staffing and training for emergency contingency plans.
- Submit all company required EH&S project reports in an accurate, complete and timely manner.
- Evaluate project EH&S performance and provide guidance on trends, corrective actions, and loss rates.
- Lead, direct, evaluate and develop a team of Safety and Environmental Engineers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, or related field with minimum of seven (7) - ten (10) years related work experience in a Safety & Environmental Engineer type role. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a manufacturing setting. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is preferred.
- Must possess experience to include air, hazardous waste, wastewater, EPCRA and OSHA compliance programs and participation in Emergency Response Teams.
- Must possess knowledge of Federal and State OSHA, and state regulations.
- Must possess knowledge of workers' compensation law.
- Must possess knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
- Demonstrate strong communication, results-focused and possess strong service skills in a production environment.
- Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Ability to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
Physical Demand Requirements
Occasionally required to stand, walk or sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
