Job description
Program Manager- Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology (IGB) Job Summary Coordinate day-to-day operation of the FLUdetect research; organizing affiliated research approvals, protocols, and data management; and ensure a high degree of coordination between collaborators and ongoing and/or planned research activities.
Duties & Responsibilities - Oversee day-to-day organization of study:
- The primary job of the program manager (PM) is to make sure the study runs smoothly and successfully with minimal day-to-day input from the PI. The PI will rely on the PM's judgement and discretion to handle many issues that come up and identify unexpected issues that must be addressed.
- Design and implement organizational systems. Design and ensure maintenance of networks/systems for study team communication, scheduling study personnel time, and sample/data storage.
- Clearly communicate any concerns and/or issues to PI and relevant study personnel. Inform PI of preferred mechanisms for communication. Meet one-on-one weekly with the PI.
- Interface with Emory/NIAID personnel, assist in reporting duties:
- The PM will be the lead person for interfacing with Emory CEIRR staff on practical, logistic, and contract issues. This includes:
Ensuring we are in compliance with all contractual obligations,
Interfacing with clinical study support staff and ensuring we are making use of all resources available,
Ensuring financial reporting is occurring properly, and
Assisting in assembling regular progress reports due to Emory and NIAID. - Hire study personnel. The PM will take the lead in creating job descriptions based on the needs of the project, working with IGB HR to get the positions approved and posted, and recruiting and evaluating candidates.
- Manage Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals. The PM is responsible for submission of IRB protocols and updates, ensuring study follows our IRB protocol.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in biology or life science-related field. Four years of experience working with large research teams. Experience with microbial genomics/laboratory work. Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. in biology or life science-related field. Experience working with large research teams. Experience with microbial genomics/laboratory work.
Familiarity with the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to supervise a research study team.
- Ability to design and implement organizational schemes for a large team.
Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 3/1/2024. Salary range begins at $70,000/year and is commensurate with experience.
