Hebron Academy is seeking a joyful,creative and caring educator interested in joining Hebron Academy’s Student Life team. This position is an excellent opportunity for those who want to live, learn, and work at a residential school with a collaborative and supportive community. We are looking for a passionate educator to assume their duties for the 2024-2025 School Year.
Who are we? Our beautiful school is located in western Maine on a 1500-acre campus with trails, ponds, and mountains. We are grounded in our purpose-driven approach as an independent boarding and day school serving students in grades 6–12 and a postgraduate year. Learning is anchored in topics that are relevant -- to students and the world -- and we create space for students to drive their own learning with their own questions. Who are you? You are an enthusiastic person who is interested in working with adolescents in a residential school environment. You describe yourself as a community builder and proactive leader with a particular passion for supporting students in their personal and social development. You are excited take the lead on all issues related to student behavior including manage routine accountability and coordinate disciplinary responses. You know the value of engaging faculty with professional growth around social-emotional wellbeing, and you are ready to support the adults on campus as well as the students. You seek a deeply relational and intentionally small community where you will be encouraged and supported to bring your full self to all aspects of your work.
Qualifications - A bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Previous work in student life leadership
- Strong organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills, allowing one to work effectively with colleagues, parents, and students
- Community building skill set and the interest to work with adolescents
- Strategic thinking skills with experience in the implementation of student-facing programs in school settings
- Capacity to facilitate conversations, mediate conflicts and positively represent the school in the larger community
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and experience leading adults as well as students
- Commitment to nurturing the whole child by caring for the emotional and social needs of each student
- Student management software (Blackbaud/Orah) experience preferred
- Preference will be given to those with experience working in an independent boarding school setting
What would you do? Your Most Important Duties Are To - Lead in the areas of student accountability—attendance, behavior, dress code, school expectations
- Communicate regularly, expediently, and directly with parents regarding student accountability
- Coordinate all of our student leadership programs—residential proctors, house captains, community speakers, Green Key ambassadors, CAM crew, class councils—and collaborate with faculty advisors to develop these programs while adding new opportunities as needed
- Plan and deliver an advisory curriculum
- In partnership with the Admin Team, plan and manage orientation (both in August and in January)
- Assist the Dean of Residential Life with travel planning at the beginning and end of each school break
- Update all relevant handbooks with current policies and procedures related to student life
- Coordinate weekly student gatherings (morning meeting) as well as special events throughout the year
- Serve as an Administrator On Duty (“AOD”) one night per week and every fourth or fifth weekend
- Keep current with best practices and trends in boarding schools, particularly as they pertain to student life initiatives
- Manage a budget with an attention to detail and a collaborative mindset
- Teach two courses per year, serve as an advisor to a small group of students, and lead or assist in an after-school sport or activity
- Be able and willing to work a flexible full-time schedule, including evenings and weekends in a boarding school setting
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
