The Teaching Assistant Professor position with the Department of Political Science is a fixed term, teaching track position with an initial appointment for three (3) years and the opportunity for reappointment and advances contingent on performance and available funding. There are no research expectations associated with this position. As part of the University’s teaching track, the position offers competitive benefits. The Department of Political Science is a nationally ranked department, #12, in the nation.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The Department of Political Science resides within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Department of Political Science is the fourth largest undergraduate major in the College with more than 700 majors, a graduate program of approximately 80 students in residence and 38 tenure/tenure- track and fixed-term faculty. The Department of Political Science at UNC is committed to a vision of the University where all members of the community feel welcome, valued, and can thrive.

Position Summary Applicants should have expertise in teaching political methodology, software and programming languages such as R and Python. The Department is committed to providing instruction in data and politics that empowers all our students to think analytically and critically about the way data impacts politics and our world.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

ABD or Ph.D or an equivalent degree in Political Science, Public Policy or a related field in the humanities or social sciences. Applicants need to show promise or achievement of teaching excellence and a desire to teach and train students.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Applicants should have expertise in teaching political methodology, software and programming languages such as R and Python.
