Responsibilities
Alongside physicians, critical care nurse practitioners will provide on-site coverage in an ICU setting delivering some of the highest acuity care in the southeast, treating patients with acute coronary syndromes, advanced heart failure, cardiogenic shock, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), complications of advanced malignancy, septic shock, end stage renal disease, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, and complications of high risk general surgery. Our critical care service provides comprehensive life support services including invasive mechanical ventilation, hemodialysis and continuous renal replacement therapy, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, and temporary mechanical circulatory support including ECMO and percutaneous VADs.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Provides direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients within institutional guidelines and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards under the direct supervision of the patient’s physician.
Assists with the formulation and implementation of a treatment plan for acute illness management in collaboration with the on-site intensivist.
Conducts patient interviews and documents patient histories, health status, and medical problems.
Maintains and updates current, accurate patient records including medical assessment, interventions, and evaluations.
Educates patients on health habits, behavior management, and need for follow-up assessments/treatments.
Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests.
Communicates necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled procedures to patients.
In collaboration with physicians, arranges for consultations to other medical professionals.
Performs approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient’s clinical status and service needs.
Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation and administration of life supporting drugs according to established protocols.
In collaboration with the patient's physician, conducts and/or participates in advanced care planning discussions.
Assesses patients for changes in status and institutes appropriate interventions, including initiation of necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patients.
Trains and teaches other health care professionals including students and other trainees in practices and procedures relevant to the nurse practitioner’s responsibilities.
Works with management to formulate plans for professional development. Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
Actively participates in organizational health services committees.
Performs related responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated competence in nursing specialty with minimum of 3 years experience as an RN in the ICU setting.
Master’s degree in nursing required
Board certification in an acute care nurse practitioner specialty area.
Currently licensed as an advanced practice nurse in the state of Tennessee by the Tennessee Board of Nursing
BLS and ACLS certifications required.
NPI and DEA eligible
Pay Range
$60.12 - $70.29 /hour
