Elementary School Teacher, Our Lady of the Pillar Academy, Half Moon Bay, CA Job Description Position: Teacher, Job Period: 2023-24 Academic Year, July 1, 2023-June 30, 2024 Grade Levels: K-8, Classroom Size: 10-20 Base Salary: $55k-$100k Commensurate with experience & comparable to SF Archdiocese payscale. Who are we? Our Lady of the Pillar Academy, in beautiful Half Moon Bay and within the Archdiocese of San Francisco, is a newly inaugurated Catholic, classical grade school. Our mission is to build abundant lives in the Coastside, through Catholic, classical education. In the geographical heart of the technological revolution shaping our lives, we wholeheartedly embrace classical education. This time-tested approach proves highly effective in instilling Christian virtues, honing skills in logic and rhetoric, and fostering a joyful existence in a world often dominated by materialism and despair. We guide our students towards experiencing the timeless treasures of goodness, truth, and beauty in abundance, and we do this joyfully. Whom are we seeking? Successful candidates will be able to teach up to 20 students of multiple grade levels in one room. The teacher serves as the educational leader of the classroom. Effectively and efficiently, he or she fosters a culture of grace and a fruitful learning environment. They perform in keeping with Catholic Tradition, and the approved curricula and mission of the school. The teacher will also maintain discipline and related parent communication. Our Lady of the Pillar Academy is a religious organization, and the teacher must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church. The teacher takes an oath of fidelity to the Church Magisterium on all doctrinal matters, with particular care for those concerning the nature of the human person, sexual ethics, and sexual identity - because these issues are at the core of family life and personal dignity. Candidates must demonstrate excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills, and possess a track record of service to a vision and mission of an apostolic or educational enterprise such as ours. Faculty at Our Lady of the Pillar Academy actively engage in the school's system to promote character and virtue, and to help students grow in holiness. Faculty members are required to attend daily Mass with the entire student body, and assist in leading spiritual retreats and school activities. Clear communication and strong interpersonal skills, to be able to engage a wide range of stakeholders and opinions, from young students to parents to contributors. Maintain a sharp, professional appearance and demeanor of classical formal academia. No denim, bare shoulders, low-cut tops, or visible tattoos. Maintain a tidy workstation and contribute to a clean, professional look. Maintain a California Driver's License in good standing, with your own automobile appropriate for travel to school functions. Certification is not required Compensation & Work Schedule Base Annual Salary $55k-$100k commensurate with experience HRA (Health Reimbursement Arrangement) - $5,000 for single employees and $10,000 for employees with families. Provide your own computer and smartphone for use on the job. You will be reimbursed $25/month. This position is based on 185 in-service days including two days in August for faculty training and faculty team advance retreat plus a willingness to devote additional time as needed for: Lesson planning, classroom set up and admissions and administrative work in August up to 3 weeks before the first day of school and as needed in January before school resumes after Christmas vacation. Community outreach and/or other PR events in evenings or on weekends (up to 4 in the year) Other meetings that occasionally might need to occur after normal school hours, in the evenings and/or on weekends during instructional weeks like parent/teacher conferences, spiritual retreats, etc. (up to 4 in the year) Grade reporting, classroom clean-up and other year-end wrap up some days after the last day of school (up to one week after the last day of school).
