About the Department
Search & Evaluation (S&E) serves as the primary entry point for external drug and technology opportunities for Novo Nordisk globally. S&E proactively scouts the global environment with the aim identifying and evaluating external opportunities with the potential to augment Novo Nordisk's strong internal R&D pipeline. Working cross-functionally, S&E supports the assessment of such external opportunities all the way to due diligence and contractual negotiation. This role will be part of the Diabetes & Obesity Therapy Area Team.
The Position As a Director within the Diabetes & Obesity Search & Evaluation team you will be operating as part of a small team of professionals dedicated to identifying and evaluating the most promising opportunities with potential to augment our pipeline and help Novo Nordisk achieve its strategic aspirations.
Working cross-functionally, you will lead the assessment of such external opportunities all the way to due diligence and contractual negotiation. As such, the role is a driver for change in executing Novo Nordisk's R&D strategy and business development activities on a global scale.

Relationships The position is part of Diabetes & Obesity team within the global S&E evaluation team and reports to the Head of Diabetes & Obesity Search and Evaluation.
The role is based in Cambridge, MA and will interact cross-functionally with stakeholders from R&D to Commercial while working in close collaboration with Novo Nordisk's Business Development teams located in Denmark and Cambridge, MA.
You will also leverage your network, and actively engage with external stakeholders including biotech companies, venture capital firms and large-cap pharma communities.
The role has no direct or indirect reports
Essential Functions - Ensuring strategic overview of internal as well as BD pipeline assets and needs
- Through internal and external network, explore what assets are needed for the therapy area as well as their fit with the existing internal pipeline.
- Setting direction to S&E efforts within the appointed therapy/technology area.
- Ensure oversight of the external opportunities and internal pipeline within the designated therapy area
- Identification of novel pipeline assets and enabling technologies.
- Ensure balanced participation in partnering events and scientific conferences.
- Ensure establishment and maintenance of network with potential partners.
- Scout for and report opportunities through professional networks or literature searches, databases or patent searches within diabetes and obesity
- Evaluation of novel pipeline assets and enabling technologies.
- Drive the technical streams of the Business Development process from strategy to target identification as well as initial evaluation and due diligence. This is done in close collaboration with experts and stakeholders across the R&D and commercial value chain.
- Ensure presentations of select opportunities to relevant stakeholders and governance boards.
- Ensure due diligence project management to enable decision-making.
Physical Requirements up to 30% overnight travel may be required.
Qualifications - Master's degree required. MD or PhD degree preferred
- 12+ years' relevant experience required with a Master's degree. 10+ years' relevant experience with a MD or PhD.
- Relevant experience includes:
- Building extensive professional network in biotech and VC communities particularly related to metabolic diseases
- Research and medical training, preferably in the metabolic field
- Proven project management skills and experience
- Business development and licensing experience covering aspects of pharmaceutical drug discovery and development preferred.
- Experience within clinical drug development in relevant therapeutic areas preferred.
- Outstanding ability to link science and strategy, as well as communication skills of complex issues.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams, ensuring clear communication and teamwork.
- Ability to contribute to a process analyzing complex information and data to enable clear and qualified recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Skilled in networking, collaboration and effective stakeholder management
