Job description

Develops and tests products and equipment under direction of engineering and scientific staff by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Reviews project instructions and blueprints to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts, or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies.

 

Devises, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products such as industrial equipment and machinery, power equipment, servosystems, machine tools, and measuring instruments. Uses basic machine tools including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders and saws.

 

Sets up and conducts tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control. Uses test machines, measuring equipment, data loggers, sensors and gages. Basic electronic knowledge required.

 

Analyzes indicated and calculated test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives, and modifies or adjusts equipment to meet specifications.

 

Records test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test method.

 

Contacts vendors to obtain technical information and makes recommendations for the purchase of mechanical and electrical equipment.

 

Setup, Operate and record results on the Instron 3382 machine. Write test reports on machine to conduct testing as required.

 

Setup, Operate and record results from Bio Pharm skid for testing. Confer with engineers to provide ideas on how to use equipment to give best results for testing new products and enhancements as well as trouble shoot customer issues using the equipment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, instruction manuals, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

COMPUTING SKILLS

Ability to use basic word processing, spreadsheet, database or custom software in a MS Windows environment including creation of original spreadsheet, database or word processing formats.
