Job description
The Connecticut College Department of Film Studies seeks candidates for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Film Production beginning July 1, 2024. Required: MFA in film or video production, or terminal degree in a related field, at the time of appointment; a body of narrative fiction filmmaking work; experience teaching at the college level, preferably screenwriting and narrative fiction filmmaking.
The ideal candidate will be a teacher and filmmaker with demonstrable knowledge about a vast range of forms, approaches, and sensibilities of filmmaking in all phases of the production process from screenwriting to post-production. Because of the small size of our classes and the close working and collaborative environment of our Film Studies courses, candidates should demonstrate dedication to innovative and interactive teaching with a commitment to examining issues of power and privilege as they relate to intersectionality issues like race, gender, and class. The candidate will be required to demonstrate a commitment to the Department's mission of integrating theory and practice through socially responsible filmmaking in their work and as reflected by their teaching. The candidate will be responsible for teaching five film production courses annually at introductory and advanced levels, with a focus on narrative fiction. In addition to teaching courses in screenwriting and narrative fiction filmmaking, the candidate will offer courses in areas of their own expertise that supplement our departmental offerings.
