Position Summary
The Manager of IT Project Management provides day-to-day management and oversight of project managers that support designated Information Technology projects and enhancements. Provides managerial oversight for multiple projects and monitors project scope, deliverables, costs, schedule, risk and issues, communication, and alignment with Kootenai Health’s governance processes. Responsible for the standards, processes, and tools used for effective project scheduling and delivery; sets and monitors project quality and delivery metrics. This role is a key participant in Kootenai Health’s information technology governance. Responsible for leading, mentoring and maintaining the technical competency of staff. Manages a departmental budget and manages expenditures within that budget.
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership and day-to-day management of a project management team responsible for a designated project portfolio that supports clinical and business/back-office operations
- Provides direction, feedback and coaching, as well as formal feedback to staff during routine one-on-one meetings and the annual performance management cycle
- Responsible for staffing the assigned project management team
- Mentors and develops other team members through coaching and influence rather than through direct supervision
- Builds annual goals for staff members, monitors performance against those goals, including action plans from the annual employee engagement survey
- Along with the IT owner, manages the performance of contract and/or vendor resources, including monitoring identified milestones and achievement of contract deliverables
- Partners with the IT owner to help maintain relationships with key business partners and other senior leaders, as well as key contacts in the health care IT industry in order to leverage best practices, and to evaluate and manage emerging technologies
- Collaborates with stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, requirements, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with organizational strategies and priorities
- Collects requirements regarding potential system enhancements or new system implementation in alignment with Kootenai Health governance and capital processes
- Manages customer expectations regarding the success of IT strategies and projects; ensures measurable outcomes are defined and reported for each strategy or project
- Investigates standardization and process improvement opportunities while making build decisions
- Monitors and manages work assignments for an identified group of project managers; organizes and prioritizes tasks, tickets, and deliverables
- Troubleshoots, identifies root cause, and documents problems of high complexity for assigned applications and systems
- Responsible for analyzing workflows and understanding policies, procedures and constraints in core area(s) of responsibility
- Partners with quality, operational, and business leaders on system design and optimization to meet quality, safety, financial and efficiency needs
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
- Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business Management, Information Services, Project Management or Healthcare Administration, or an equivalent combination of education, skills and relevant experience is required
- Master’s Degree in Information Services, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, or a related IT or healthcare field is preferred
- Minimum 5 years’ leadership experience, and 7 years total relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience required
- Project Management Certification (PMP) or applicable alternative required
- Experience with assigned applications and domains preferred
- Practical experience with ERP and EHR systems including configuration, implementation, support and optimization
- Solid practical experience to design and implement systems within the framework of technical boundaries
- Established track record in management, particularly involving successful, collaborative work with physicians and clinic leadership
- Advanced understanding of the standard tools, workflow processes, and/or procedures and concepts used in the development and deployment of application software necessary to run the healthcare systems business, clinical or financial systems
