Position Description: The Institute of Molecular Cardiology, Department of Medicine, is looking for a motivated person who has experience with animal handling and care. This person will join a team that focuses on translational research of cardioprotective strategies using both rodent and large animal models, including pigs, of myocardial infarction and heart failure. The primary function will be to assist other team members and to participate in: surgical procedures on rats and pigs, post-surgical and post-procedural observation and follow-up of animals, hemodynamic studies and echocardiography, blood sample and tissue sample collection, postmortem heart perfusion, pathology procedures including histologic analyses and immunohistochemical staining, biochemical assays, and analysis and reporting of pathology and biochemical data.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Conduct experiments and laboratory analysis following clearly defined procedures.
- Perform a variety of biomedical assays according to established protocols.
- Perform surgical procedures to create animal models of myocardial infarction and heart failure on pigs, rabbits, and rats.
- Perform procedures to give treatment with stem cells, therapeutic genes, therapeutic agents, or interventions to cardiovascular diseased animals.
- Perform cardiac functional assessment using echocardiography and hemodynamic studies.
- Analyze/report experimental data for evaluation of cardioprotective benefits.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience with small and large animal surgery, performing cardiac functional assessments, and analyzing/reporting experimental data for evaluation.
Target Compensation Maximum: $68,900.00
Target Compensation Minimum: $45,900.00
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
