Job description

The Department of Physics at Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a new full time faculty position in astrophysics/cosmology. We seek outstanding individuals in computation/theory or observation/instrumentation who will complement and expand the current activities of the McWilliams Center for Cosmology (). Candidates from all areas of observational and theoretical astrophysics are encouraged to apply. We are particularly interested in candidates who will best leverage current interdisciplinary activities including those across the Physics, Statistics and Data Science, Computer Science, and Engineering Departments at CMU.

The successful applicant will be expected to conduct an original research program that includes mentorship of graduate students, to teach courses within CMU's undergraduate and graduate curriculum, and to facilitate and/or contribute to diversity and inclusion within the Physics department. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy/Astrophysics or a closely related field, and demonstrate achievement in research as well as commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education. Appointment at the tenure‐track Assistant Professor level is the target of this search, but more senior appointments with tenure may also be possible for exceptionally qualified candidates. The target starting date for this position is September 1, 2022.
