Lecturer

The Department Near Eastern Studies at Cornell University seeks a dynamic Arabic language professional to join its team of Arabic instructors for a full-time position as Lecturer of Arabic beginning in the 2024-25 academic year. Responsibilities will include teaching three courses per semester and actively participating in the academic and co-curricular activities of the Arabic program.

The Cornell Arabic language program integrates Arabic dialects and Modern Standard Arabic, utilizing the 'Arabiyyat al-Naas series, developed at Cornell. In addition to the regular six-semester sequence of elementary, intermediate and advanced Arabic, the Arabic program offers a variety of courses including Qur'anic Arabic, media Arabic, Arabic through film and, Modern Arabic literature. The program also offers an elementary course designed specifically for heritage speakers of Arabic who wish to develop their reading and writing skills.

The successful candidate must have:

* A minimum of a Master's degree in Arabic language, literature, linguistics, or a related field.

* A demonstrated record of success in Arabic language instruction at the college or university level.

* Native or near-native fluency in spoken Arabic and written fluency in Modern Standard Arabic.

* A high level of proficiency in English, both written and spoken.

We seek applicants who are excited to work as part of a small team of language instructors and are willing to teach colloquial Arabic and Modern Standard Arabic in the same course. We additionally seek candidates who are committed to innovative teaching methods and are familiar with language-teaching technologies.

[Pay Range: $49,700 - $122,000] Actual salary offers in the College of Arts and Sciences will be based on education, experience, Discipline, and relevant skills.
