Responsibility: The Anesthesiologist Veterinarian works with all departments of the veterinary specialty hospital to define and implement practice medical policies and procedures that ensure quality patient care. The Anesthesiologist will provide sedation, anesthesia, and pain management for animals during surgical procedures and diagnostic tests as well as assist during any medical procedures that require animals to be sedated. This is a leadership position with the important responsibility of ensuring a positive work environment in which the practice can achieve its goals.
Performance Expectations: - Provides compassionate care to patients.
- Ability to treat ASA 1-5 patients.
- Works with the practice owners to set anesthesia and analgesia medical policies and procedures.
- Works together with the training department to continue a program of anesthesia and analgesia continuing education.
- Collaborates with the owners on plans for developing and growing the anesthesia department within the business.
- Is active in professional organizations and community activities.
- Performs physical examinations using preliminary data provided by the veterinary technicians; diagnoses physical condition and presents diagnostic and treatment alternatives to the client being sensitive to the client’s emotional and financial needs.
- Opportunity to collaborate with many specialties including specialty surgery, ER, ICU, Internal Medicine, Radiology, and Dentistry ensuring highest standards of anesthesia safety.
- Educate staff and technicians on various aspects of anesthesia and thorough case management.
- Outreach to community area hospitals to provide continuing education and support.
- Opportunity to treat a diverse array of species from canine and feline to ruminants and reptiles.
Requirements: • Experience as a D.V.M. in a specialty and emergency practice is desirable, but not required.
• D.V.M. licensed in NJ
• D.E.A licensed in NJ
• Significant continuing education achievements, beyond licensing requirements.
• Ability to work as a team member as well as a doctor.
• Working knowledge and interest in the business aspect of a veterinary practice.
• Willingness to stay after hours or work extra hours if needed to provide care for critical anesthesia patients.
• Professional and personable demeanor and able to use tact and diplomacy with staff members and clients.
Physical Requirements: This job is physically active and requires frequent bending and standing for long periods of time. It requires routine lifting and restraining animals. You must be able to lift to 50lbs.
