Job Description
Assesses patients, develops and initiates treatment plan based on the results of the evaluation. The evaluation may include measurements of neuromuscular and skeletal functions. Provides direct patient care. Documents findings, progress and instruction to patients and caregivers. May assist Level III physical therapists with program development. Serves as resource to staff Physical Therapist's. Provides training and guidance to students and interns. Responsible for patient care performed by assistants and rehabilitation technicians.

A physical therapist practicing direct access will examine and evaluate a patient's current conditions, which may result in identification of movement and mobility dysfunction. A physical therapist practicing direct access will not diagnose an illness or disease. If a medical diagnosis has already been established by a qualified health care practitioner, the physical therapist will take it into consideration during the evaluation process.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's or graduate degree in physical therapy from an accredited university-based physical therapy program

Licenses/Certifications: Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners license

A physical therapist practicing direct access:

Education: Doctoral degree along with a residency or fellowship program, OR

Licensed therapist with 30 hours of continuing competence activities in differential diagnosis

Licenses/Certifications: Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners license.
