Job description

Overview:

Reporting to the Access Services Manager, the Library Assistant III, Evening and Weekend Supervisor supervises the library facility, services, and student/contracted employees during evening and weekend hours. This person is the primary, regular staff member in charge during times when other staff or resources on campus are not available and enables the library to be open to students until 11pm and on weekends when school is in session. This role provides reference and technology help after 5 PM, performs library circulation/reference routines using the online computer systems, assesses emergency situations and confirms safety of students.

Hours: 2:30 - 11pm M-TH, 12:30 - 9pm SU; FR and SA off

Break: 5:30-6:30pm M-TH, 3:30-4:30 SU

Salary: $48,739.43 annually/$937.61 weekly

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time or equivalent part-time, paraprofessional experience (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitution below.

Substitutions:

An associate or higher degree may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.*

*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with Evergreen or other library management software
  2. Experience working in access services
  3. Proficiency with Excel and/or Google Sheets and other Microsoft Office or Google Apps programs
  4. Experience with preparing reports, statistics, and other documents
  5. Ability to deal politely and tactfully with a diverse group of users

Working Conditions:

This is an on-site, in-person position in Salem, Massachusetts.

Incumbents of positions in this series work in a typical library setting; they may work in a confined area, stand for prolonged periods of time and work varied shifts, weekends or nights. Must be able to lift/move up to 35 pounds.
