Job Description:

Job Summary: Responsible for planning and supervising the daily activities of the lab. Responsible for training lab technicians and development and maintenance of lab procedures and equipment.
•  Represents the Company in a competent and professional way
•  Interacts primarily with Director and Assistant Director of Winemaking, Associate and Client Winemakers to understand expectations.
•  Prepares and Manages the annual laboratory budget.
•  Assures that analysis is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
•  Communicates analysis in an accurate and timely manner to all internal and Client Winemakers.
•  Assigns, delegates, and performs required projects and monitor’s progress.
•  Communicates performance obstacles to Winemaking and/or maintenance as appropriate
•  Assures that work is performed completely, properly, and safely
•  Assures work areas are kept clean and equipment is well cared for
•  Manages technician’s use of time, space, and equipment
•  Orders necessary supplies
•  Solves problems and makes suggestions
•  Develops and educates self and staff
•  Implements safety program

Experience and Training:
3-year wine lab experience and/or education
BS or BA degree in Enology or related science and knowledge of winemaking and cellar processes
Proficient in algebra, Microsoft Word and Excel
Knowledge of wine microbiology

Equipment used on the job:
Lab wet chemistry apparati, spectrophotometers, O2 meters, IR alcoholyzer, vacuum filter, centrifuge, auto-titrater, computer, calculator, microscope

Physical Requirements:
Standing – Frequently
Walking even and uneven surfaces – Frequently
Bending – Frequently
Squatting/Crouching – Occasionally
Balancing – Occasionally
Climbing – Occasionally
Lifting, Carrying, Pushing, Pulling up to 50 lbs - Occasionally
Sitting, kneeling, reaching - Occasionally

Environmental Conditions:
Extreme heat or cold - Frequently
Extreme dryness or humidity- Frequently
High noise level - Occasionally
Low lighting level - Occasionally
Exposure to hazards such as electrical shock, falls, burns, toxic chemicals – Frequently
Atmospheric Conditions; fumes, odors, mists, gases, or poor ventilation - Occasionally

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 hours/day plus overtime and shift work as needed
Long hours and weekend work are required during harvest
