George Fox University's Liberation Scholars Program is looking for a Temporary Assistant Program Coordinator to play a key role in our program development and implementation.
About the Job:
Do you want to make a difference in the lives of under-served high school students? The Liberation Scholars program introduces intellectually curious Latina/o high school students to the humanities, college life, and civic engagement. Students participate in a two-week residential program on the GFU campus, and in follow-up meetings during the next academic year. The Temporary Assistant Program Coordinator will work with the Program Director and Program Coordinator to recruit and support students, develop community partnerships, and design co-curricular materials and activities. They will also help mentor and supervise the GFU students who serve as teaching assistants during the two-week camp (Liberation Mentors). They will have the opportunity to grow and transition into the main program coordinator role in future years, as grant funding allows.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Working with the Marketing, Early College, and K12 outreach teams to promote the program in local high schools and recruit interested students.
- Working with the Program Director to develop summer and academic-year programming around issues of college access and community leadership.
- Working with the Program Director to develop community partnerships and field trip opportunities.
- Communicating with current and past scholars and their families.
- Providing logistical support as needed to the Program Director and Program Coordinator. For example:
- Communicating with outside vendors for special event programming (banquets, field trips).
- Collaborating with George Fox University faculty, staff, and alumni for program development activities.
- Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
- By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
- Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.
- Other duties as assigned.
We're looking for candidates who have:
- A Bachelor's degree
- Competence with Excel and the Google Office Suite.
- The ability to generate ideas and take initiative, strong planning and organizational skills.
- A commitment to humanities education and the success of first-generation and marginalized students.
- Additional availability in June, up to 15 hours per week, leading up to and during the summer program, June 20 - July 3, 2024.
- A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a church. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.
Preference will be given to those who have the following attributes:
- Spanish literacy and fluency.
- Experience (personal or professional) in bilingual education, first-generation student support, or community organizing.
- Experience with program development and cross-institutional collaboration.
Job information:
- Hours Per Week: 6 hours
- Duration: This temporary position is expected to conclude within 6 months.

- Working Conditions : Physical requirements could include lifting more than 25 pounds and performing any activities such as balancing, bending/stooping, climbing stairs, crawling, crouching, climbing ladders, kneeling, repetitive motion or reaching above shoulder level.
