RUSH University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for RUSH Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for the position of Supportive Oncology Clinical Psychologist .
Supportive Oncology is a core program within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Rush University Medical Center and is fully integrated into the Rush University Cancer Center. Supportive Oncology services are offered to enhance the health and well-being of patients and their loved ones across the cancer care continuum. Current services include mental health care, integrative therapies, nutrition support, care management services, spiritual care, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. Supportive Oncology is committed to innovative, collaborative, and compassionate care to: 1) decrease distress and improve quality of life through the use of individually tailored, evidence-informed practices; 2) decrease symptom burden associated with cancer or its treatment; and 3) connect patients with the support resources they need through internal programmatic growth and strong community partnerships. The Clinical Psychologist in Supportive Oncology is a core member of the Cancer Center and provides psychological evaluation and intervention to patients and families and directly supports their medical teams. Clinical opportunities will span inpatient and ambulatory cancer care settings and there is ample opportunity for program development and research. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills, experience in psycho-oncology and/or other medical patient populations (e.g., cardiology, transplant), as well as high potential to conduct research. The ideal candidate will hold a degree in clinical psychology from an APA approved program, is eligible for Illinois license, and experience in psychosocial oncology or related area of health psychology.
Our new, state-of-the-art Cancer Center facility in Chicago serves as a hub for services throughout our health system. Our core programs are supported by multi-disciplinary teams from medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, research and bioinformatics, clinical operations, and dedicated clinical and support staff, including patient navigators. This structure allows specialists to more easily consult and see patients based on tumor type or molecular and genomic signatures, combining our outstanding multidisciplinary approach with a data infrastructure that supports this patient-centered care. This integration enables us to make a greater commitment to research, dramatically scaling the effectiveness of clinical trials, and enabling translational research that moves bench to bedside, and bedside to bench.
