AGRICULTURAL TCHN SR (Senior Agricultural Technician) Job Summary
Job Summary Under general direction, provide support of specialized greenhouses. Perform tasks including, but not limited to, constructing irrigation/fertigation systems, pest control, pruning, planting, hand weeding, soil preparations, housekeeping, & other basic horticultural tasks. Other tasks include: driving a University vehicle, pulling trailers, pesticide applications, maintaining pumps and spray equipment; blowers, table/circular saws; installing HID lights and crop support systems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Safely lift and move materials weighing up to 80 lbs. with assistance.
- Ability to work at heights over 10 feet, such as on an orchard ladder.
- Able to pass all fitting and training requirements for using a respirator for pesticide applications.
- Able to wear personal protective equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT - UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions with time split between working outside in fields, ornamental gardens, nursery, and within climate controlled greenhouses.
- Work in an area where exposure to pesticides, dust, bee stings, and animal bites is possible.
QUALIFICATIONS Required: Additional Minimum License/Certification - Maintain a valid California driver's license to operate a University vehicle.
Minimum Education/Experience - Experience performing general agricultural tasks in fields and greenhouses through work experience or academic coursework with hands on experience.
- Experience in irrigation/fertigation management, maintenance, and construction.
- Experience pulling and backing up trailers attached to vehicle.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) - Skills to program irrigation controllers.
- Skills to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Skills to recognize common diseases, insects, and related pests.
- Oral communication skills to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, facility service personnel, and outside vendors.
Preferred: Preferred Education/Experience - Experience using a wide variety of farm machinery.
- Experience using chainsaws, hedge trimmers, line trimmers, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, and other landscape maintenance/agriculture maintenance power equipment.
- Basic carpentry skills and experience with shop tools and equipment.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) - Basic understanding of small engines, sufficient to diagnose and repair common problems.
- Skills to effectively supervise student assistants.
