Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY

Are you a teacher looking for a way to bring home extra income? Are you currently in the process of obtaining a degree in education and looking for teaching experience? Sylvan Learning of Bellevue is hiring part-time after school teachers for our tutoring programs! The best part? There is NO LESSON PLANNING OR MATERIAL PREPARATION REQUIRED! Simply arrive and begin teaching! Sylvan teachers help inspire students to learn by providing an exciting, balanced learning experience. Our team is dedicated to helping students understand learning material and have the confidence to take on any academic challenges they may face. We also hire retired teachers, substitute teachers with a teaching license, inactive teachers, and paraprofessionals with a teaching certificate. Pay ranges from $14/hr to $16/hr depending on experience, availability, and subjects taught. Hours range from 4-8 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Creates a friendly and inviting environment for students Guides students through Sylvan’s learning programs Manages students, tasks and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session Evaluates and records the progress of each student on their program assignment Uses praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn Completes learning logs at the end of each hour to communicate the student’s learning with parents Communicates with Directors Attends periodic staff meetings and completes ongoing training as needed Completes certification training on each Sylvan program taught to students

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Reading and Math Program Teachers:

CURRENT TEACHERS

Four year degree or equivalent required State or provincial teaching credentials (current) Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension preferred

STANDING JUNIOR / SENIOR OBTAINING A DEGREE

MUST be a standing Junior or Senior studying to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension preferred

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
