The School of Information Sciences (iSchool) at the University of Illinois invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at all ranks (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor). We are seeking applications in the broad areas of Engaged Scholarship in any aspect of the Information Sciences.

The Scholarship of Engagement emphasizes the need for the academy to become a more vigorous partner in addressing our most pressing social, civic, economic, and moral problems today. Engaged Scholarship is rigorous and impactful, grounded in co-equal, mutually beneficial relationships between members within and outside of the academy. We are in search of applicants who are passionate about shaping and advancing the Information Sciences with a focus on community, public, critical, and civic engagement.

Potential research topics and approaches include, but are not limited to:


Exceptional candidates in any area of the Information Sciences or related fields are strongly encouraged to apply, particularly those who embrace decolonial approaches and foster reciprocal partnerships with communities to address racial, political, economic, and other social inequalities, as well as the needs of communities at the margins.


We are seeking applicants who will thrive in our interdisciplinary academic unit at one of the nation's premier land-grant research universities. Successful candidates must exhibit the potential to conduct world-class research, teach effectively in undergraduate, professional, and doctoral programs, and contribute to our mission of advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent by the time of appointment.


At the intersection of inquiry and engagement, the School of Information Sciences engages with social issues through research and education, contributing to the public good and future scholarship. With roots in a 130-year-old Library and Information Science program, we are a national leader in research and education for librarians and other information professionals. At the iSchool at Illinois, we employ methods from across the disciplines to grapple with society's most urgent challenges related to information, its practices, and technologies. Our faculty are global experts in areas as diverse as AI, children's literature, and network science.


Our doctoral degree in Information Sciences builds on a long tradition that includes the oldest LIS doctoral program in the country and the top-ranked professional master's program in library and information science. We also offer professional master's programs in information management and bioinformatics, a licensure program in school librarianship, as well as interdisciplinary, STEM-designated undergraduate degrees in information sciences and data science. Appointment Information


This is a 100% full-time tenure-track faculty position, appointed on a 9-month basis. The expected start date is August 16, 2024. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
