Job Description: The Assistant Dean (AD) for Advancement for the Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs (Maxwell) reports to the Dean of the School & to the VP for Advancement for Schools, Colleges, & Administration.
The AD is responsible for securing significant philanthropic support for the School through the development & execution of the School's fundraising & alumni engagement efforts. The AD comprehensively manages the School's advancement program & directly oversees the School's advancement staff (currently 6 positions).
The AD has front line responsibility for identification, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of major donors & prospective donors. Serving as a part of Maxwell's leadership, the AD will work closely and collaboratively with the Dean & faculty, and central Advancement colleagues to achieve a high level of engagement and financial support from alumni, parents, and friends whose philanthropic priorities match the educational mission and academic programs in the School.
This individual also serves as the primary contact & support for the School's volunteer leadership board(s).
Key performance metrics for this position include effective management of the advancement team, face to face visits, number & dollar value of solicitations and meeting the School's annual new business & campaign goals.

Qualifications: - Bachelors degree required; masters degree preferred.
- Considerable experience in fund-raising work in higher education is required.
- Experience working with a professional\graduate school constituency preferred.
- A valid drivers license is required.
- Considerable experience in development work in higher education is necessary.
Job Specific Qualifications: - Ability to lead and manage a comprehensive advancement plan and team of professionals.
- Proven experience in the full spectrum of development including cultivation, successfully soliciting six and seven figure gifts, stewardship, and donor recognition.
- Expert written and interpersonal communication skills including political acumen to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout a complex organization and with external constituencies.
- Expert skills in making persuasive and compelling cases for support.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Entrepreneurial spirit focused on goals achievement.
- Willingness and availability to travel domestically.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment.
Responsibilities: - Work closely with the Dean of the Maxwell School to develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising and engagement plan.
- Serve as the Schools chief development officer creating and implementing strategies to identify, cultivate and solicit alumni, parents, friends, corporations and foundations.
- Demonstrate accountability to VP for Schools, Colleges, and Administration and to the Dean for executing campaign plan and driving toward achievement of advancement and unit goals.
- Manage Maxwell advancement staff, including oversight of major gift officers, lead annual gift officers, alumni engagement, stewardship, annual giving and leadership of complete staff of 6.
- Work strategically and collaboratively with centrally based AEA offices and staff, including, Philanthropic Engagement, Gift Planning, Principal Gifts, Major Gifts, International and Regional Development, Alumni Engagement, Advancement Services, Prospect Development and Analytics and Donor Relations.
- Work with the Associate Dean for Diversity Equity and Inclusion to further engagement of underrepresented alumni and affinity groups.
- Represent the School and its priorities across the university community.
- Travel domestically to meet with donors and prospects.
- Plan, manage and staff domestic prospect visits for the Dean.
- Serve as primary contact and provide oversight to Schools volunteer advisory board(s) identifying, engaging, soliciting, and stewarding past and present board members.
- Record and maintain updated plans and opportunities for assigned portfolio as well as all other activity relative to donors and prospects. Record results of all solicitations into CITRUS/CRM database including meaningful interactions ensuring the accuracy of all entries.
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of Maxwells priorities, academic programs, and centers of excellence in order to translate these assets into compelling funding opportunities and align them with donors interests.
- Work with Maxwell faculty and staff to involve them with alumni engagement and funding opportunities where appropriate.
- Work with the Maxwell Budget Office to align gift accounts and operational budget.
