The City of Simi Valley, home of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, was incorporated in 1969. It is a General Law City with a Council/Manager form of government. Simi Valley encompasses an area of 39 square miles and is located in the southeast portion of Ventura County. The current estimated population is 126,878, yet Simi Valley maintains a unique balance of open space and City amenities.
Outdoor recreation includes over a dozen beautiful parks, camping and picnic spots, tennis courts, two golf courses and one of the largest equestrian trail systems in the United States. Boating and other water sporting activities are only 60 to 90 minutes away in Ventura and Santa Barbara. The City of Los Angeles is less than an hour away.

The City of Simi Valley/ Waterworks District No. 8, Water Division, is seeking to fill an Associate Engineer position. The Associate Engineer is expected to design, prepare plans using the latest version of AutoCAD, specifications and construction cost estimates for a variety of water infrastructure improvement projects. Such projects include water main line replacement, water tank rehabilitation and repair, and pump station upgrades. Other duties include assessing the feasibility of water service for proposed developments, ability to utilize GIS and provide excellent customer service.
Details:
The ideal candidate takes initiative and accountability on producing work products, with a focus on the details of the work content and the final product. They will also possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, establishing and maintaining relationships with contractors, vendors, outside agencies and internal staff. They must be proficient in AutoCAD and GIS software, and have the technical background in water engineering.
Minimum Qualifications for consideration: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education/Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, architecture, or a related field. Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible engineering experience, or two years of architecture experience (when assigned to Building & Safety).
License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license. Possession of an Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate or two years of architectural experience (working under the direction of a licensed architect. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Plans Examiner certificate may be required depending on area of assignment.
