Job description
The Medical Assistant shall begin the implementation of the patient care process as delegated by the Physician/ mid-level provider but not limited to patient care documentation, direct observation and patient process evaluations. Has knowledge of the processes, policies and procedures of Forrest General Hospital. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with employees and family members of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Responsible for maintaining and assisting with the electronic medical record. Responsible for communicating with patients, returning phone calls, triage of clinic patients, scheduling patient appointments, and making copies of patient information for billing department, when needed. The Medical Assistant may be required to remove casts and splints from orthopedic patients and assist them during Radiology. Responsible to transfer non-weight bearing patients from the wheelchair to exam table and /or scale. Will assist with pre-certing for Trauma/ Acute Care Surgery, Orthopedic Trauma, and Neurosurgical Trauma. The Medical Assistant will review medications in the EMR. Responsible for placing patients in exam rooms as needed and preparing the patient for provider needs, such as uncovering wounds, assisting during minor procedures, and gathering supplies. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups.
Assist with clinical operations to include clerical responsibilities, clinical duties, and other tasks as deemed appropriate by the provider and/or Trauma Program Manager. Performs under the direct supervision of the Trauma Program Manager and is delegated to achieve quality patient care and job performance.

- Possesses the ability to read data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described by the physician in charge.
- Demonstrates the ability to assist with a variety of procedures, exams and/or operations of diagnostic equipment.
- Demonstrates the appropriate aseptic technique for preparation, procedures, and medications administered.
- Follows all policies regarding clinic operations and patient care.
- Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment for patients and personnel.
- Ensures patient rights and confidentiality of patient information.
- Makes accurate documentation in electronic medical record.
- Responds to patient communication in a timely manner.
- Accurately reviews and enters patient medications.
- Efficiently executes point of care testing and accurately documents results.
- Demonstrates appropriate behavior both at work and away from facility that will positively reflect on profession as well as facility and organization. Behavior must coincide with facility's Code of Conduct.
- Adheres to and promotes the established values of the organization.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills:
High School Diploma and graduate of recognized MA program preferred.
Work Experience:
Physician office or clinic experience preferred. VFC experience preferred.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
- Certification as a Medical Assistant
