As an assistant operations engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in maintaining work zone safety
and mobility, working with signals, design, and construction, and represent the Lansing TSC to MDOT, public, and other agencies. Your expertise in data analysis, coordination and attention to detail will directly contribute to enhancing Michigan’s structural systems. Your problem-solving skills and collaborative mindset will be invaluable in troubleshooting issues and ensuring optimal performance. As the next assistant operations engineer, you would be responsible for:
- Performing general engineering functions in the area of traffic operations, including work zone safety and mobility.
- Performing engineering functions in the area of signal operations, safety, design, and construction.
- Gathering field information and representing the Lansing TSC in meetings within MDOT, with other agencies or with the public.
- Ensuring TSC alignment with application of proper traffic safety standards.
- Reviewing signal operations and timing plans, as well as working to improve signal optimization throughout the TSC area.

The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the entry (9) level through the maximum rate at the advanced (12) level. Based on education and experience, candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they are qualified for.

Experience Transportation Engineer 9
No specific type or amount is required.
Transportation Engineer 10
One year of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 9.
Transportation Engineer P11
Two years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 10.
Transportation Engineer 12
Three years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to
a Transportation Engineer P11.
Transportation Engineer 9 - 12 Possession of a registered professional engineer license as required by the State of Michigan may be substituted for 6 months of experience at the Transportation Engineer 9-12 levels. This substitution may only be used once for any employee for qualification of appointment or early reclassification.Possession of valid driver's license.
