We are launching brand new products and product lines within our engineering organization for the US Gas business unit , and as a Senior Software Engineer, you'll be there at the inception! Our products go through a validation phase, where we answer the question: “What is the business problem we are trying to solve”, and together with your product/design/UX/business counterparts, you'll be responsible for narrowing the scope, defining a solution, and working with your team to solve it. Your crucial work will help millions of National Grid customers and help lead the way for development efforts within National Grid!
What you'll do
As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll be part of the re-imaging of our gas retail choice product. The product is core for empowering customers to buy from 3rd party suppliers and supporting the business needs to track, manage, and report on usage for those customers and the 3rd party suppliers. Key responsibilities include the following:
Take on a critical role of turning business needs into technology solutions specifically working within our gas business
Provide support and mentorship to the engineering team
Collaborate with teams on other products and business units on technology
Work on system/software design and development
What you'll need
Lots of enthusiasm!
Experience building full-stack JavaScript applications leveraging Node and React, preferably hosting in Azure
5+ years of experience in software development as a developer
Ability to grow technically and maintain a customer-first mentality, the motivation to take the initiative to own and resolve issues
Solid communication and documentation skills
Experience utilizing Microsoft Azure is a plus

Waltham, MA $112,000 - $132,000 a year
Syracuse, NY $100,000 - $118,000 a year
Salary is commensurate with experience and location
Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company’s testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.
