NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK

STESA is seeking an energetic Community Action Coordinator (CAC) who will play a key role in implementing a five-year community mobilization initiative, “Raise the Bar” that results in public policy that addresses the connection between alcohol overconsumption and sexual assault. The CAC will use the Close to Home community mobilization model and will conduct educational workshops, community forums, and awareness campaigns in collaboration with Isla Vista residents, local businesses and various stakeholders. The ideal candidate is skillful in working directly with residents, community organizations, businesses, faith organization and policy makers to coordinate and facilitate action. Additionally, the Community Action Coordinator will diligently work with stakeholders to evaluate the effectiveness of the implemented strategies, collect data, and assess the impact of the community's efforts in reducing alcohol-related sexual assault.

Overall, the CAC’s role is to engage the community, facilitate collaboration among stakeholders, and promote responsible alcohol use to create a healthier and safer community.

ADMINISTRATION OF PROGRAMS

1. Conduct community mobilization using the Close to Home model to engage a network of community partners, organizations, and residents.

2. Conduct community assessment to determine viable strategies for priority populations in the community.

3. Identify and establish formal and informal partnerships with traditional/non-traditional organizations, sectors, and businesses to achieve proposed goals.

MARKETING & RESOURCES:

1. Promote Raise the Bar information to the community through various social media platforms and in a manner that is consistent with STESA branding and messaging.

STAFF TRAINING AND PARTNER MEETINGS:

1. Participate in initiative training by attending in person, or virtually as available.

2. Participate in Technical Assistance calls, peer networking calls or communities of practice calls, and web conferences.

3. Conduct regular meetings and/or trainings with partners on selected strategies and participate in collaborative activities or events.

4. Lead or participate in at least one local collaborative or coalition that addresses intersectional approaches to violence prevention.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Working toward a BA or greater required, preferably in education, politics, sociology, or related field. Or prior employment and/or intern experience with transferable skills to that of a Community Organizer.

2. Excellent public speaking skills.

3. Excellent public relations skills. Considerable use of tact, diplomacy, discretion, and judgment.

4. Strong written communication skills.

5. Completion of CI Training within 3 months of hire (STESA will provide this training). Working knowledge of and sensitivity to issues related to sexual violence.

6. Knowledge of issues pertinent to marginalized communities. Experience in developing educational programs that address the needs of these communities.

7. Experience in working effectively with staff, volunteers, and/or community agencies of diverse political, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.

8. Demonstrated ability to motivate and coordinate the efforts of others in a positive manner.

9. Strong skills in community mobilization, advocacy, and activism.

10. Well organized with excellent skills in time management & attention to detail.

11. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

12. Working knowledge of statistics and statistical gathering methods.

13. Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft suite. Strong Internet research skills. Well-versed in the use of social media.

14. Flexibility and willingness to work a varied schedule including weekends. Have the ability to travel within California for training

15. Must have reliable transportation, a valid California Driver’s License and auto insurance that meets the minimum statutory limits required by State law. Ability to drive safely and in compliance with all applicable laws while on STESA business.
