Research Scientist (Sacks Lab) - ISEE Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment Job Summary Will conduct cutting-edge research on the genetics and genomics of Miscanthus and miscanes, with the long-term goal of improving these crops for use as bioenergy and bioproducts feedstocks. Will conduct research and apply for additional funding to focus on climate-resilience, abiotic stress tolerance, photoperiod regulation of flowering and dormancy, homologous recombination in polyploids, gene expression and genomic selection methods.
Duties & Responsibilities - Conduct research on genetics and genomics of Miscanthus and miscanes (50%)
- Publish research outputs in academic journals and present findings at conferences (20%)
- Write and submit grant proposals (15%)
- Supervise and train students, technicians, and postdoctoral scholars involved in the research (10%)
- Support the management of research projects including preparing project deliverables and managing the day to day operations of the laboratory (5%)
Minimum Qualifications PhD in Plant Genetics, Plant Biology or equivalent.
- 2+ years post-doctoral research experience on genetics and genomics of bioenergy grasses
- Proven experience designing and conducting successful RNA-Seq experiments
- Experience implementing RAD-Seq for plant genetics research
- Experience analyzing complex plant genomes Preferred Qualifications
- Experience conducting genetics and genomics research on Miscanthus
- Experience conducting genetic mapping and QTL analyses in outbred populations of plants
- Experience analyzing data with R and SAS Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Biology of bioenergy grasses (esp. Miscanthus and Saccharum)
- Plant genomics, especially for polyploid, outbred plants
- Methods of analyzing and interpreting transcriptome data
Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after closing date. Salary is commensurate with experience, but minimum salary is $49,000/year.
