Overview
Excellent opportunity to join a team-oriented group of APPs and Neurosurgeons caring for neurosurgical patients at a Level 1 Trauma Center located in beautiful Peoria, IL. Practice consists of 8 primary neurosurgeons and 5 current inpatient/outpatient APPs with plans to expand to 8 full-time inpatient/outpatient APP team in collaboration with inpatient Neurosurgery APPs and the Neurosurgery Residency service (University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria) . Our neurosurgical program is committed to educating, training, and mentoring APPs.
Position Details:
- Monday through Friday 0700-1600
- Hospital rounding in the morning and outpatient clinic following inpatient rounds
- Flexible weekend rotation 1-2 shifts every 8 weeks
- The APP (Advanced Practice Provider) performs the following tasks:
- Obtain a patient history
- Perform a physical examination
- Conduct a comprehensive assessment
- Order, conduct and interpret diagnostic tests
- Formulate a diagnostic impression
- Develop and implement a treatment plan
- Monitor the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions
- Prescribe pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments
- Facilitate appropriate consultations and referrals
- Provide counseling and education to meet patient needs
- Coordinates hospital discharges and follow-up testing/appointments
- Participate in research and quality improvement initiatives
- Comply with all required hospital compliance policies
- Quality care and c ost savings
- Timely and up-to-date documentation of medical records
Practice Model:
- 8 primary neurosurgeons +5 inpatient/outpatient APPs with plans to expand to 8 inpatient /outpatient APPs, and 5 inpatient APPs
- Effective communication between MD, APP, and Neurosurgery Residency service (University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria) is key to fostering a supportive environment and optimizing patient outcomes.
- Day coverage consists of 2 dedicated inpatient APPs per day (12- or 8-hour shifts), Neurosurgery residents, and morning rounding on select patients provided by inpatient/outpatient APPs before returning to outpatient clinic. Morning report begins at 0700 and inpatient rounding follows until 10:00 am where report out occurs and hospital outpatient clinic to follow.
- Weekend coverage: a rotating coverage model with 1-2 weekend shifts every 8 weeks.
- Elective volume; 80:20 spine
Qualifications Requirements Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in nursing or physician assistant studies . Current APRN or PA national certification, and Illinois licensure as a Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, or Physician Assistant
- BLS, ACLS, ENLS certification (can help acquire)
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- At least one year of acute care experience in neurosurgery or related field
