Minimum Qualifications

*Intern will be requested to work approximately 10-25 hours a week*

Minimum Qualifications Current enrollment in undergraduate pre-law studies or closely related field OR pursuing a Doctor of Jurisprudence.

Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred

Typical Duties


Conducts special studies, research, and projects at the request of the department;


Establishes and maintains program and project files;


Receives and resolves or refers citizen complaints to the proper authority;


Screens incoming calls and visitors to determine necessity for call or visits;


Screens routine correspondence for the department;


Prepares correspondence and recurring reports;


Reads and reviews outgoing correspondence for procedural and grammatical accuracy plus conformance to general policy;


Works with legal staff to screen incoming applications and legal documents;


Types letters, statements, narrative and statistical reports;


Arranges for meetings and provides participants with the topics to be discussed background information;


Entrusted with confidential information which pertains to county matters under consideration and personnel involved;


Assists with maintaining department's appointment calendar;


Keeps and maintains records of time reports;


Performs other duties as required by the department;


This may be an unpaid internship and is only on a voluntary basis;

Commits self to providing excellent customer service and demonstrate commitment through cooperative team and individual efforts; and

Creates a high quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills.

Job Summary

Summary of Position
The Intern performs administrative staff work required to support the activities and operations of the assigned department. Must maintain a professional caliber of attire and decorum at all times.

Additional Information


Knowledge of: general office practice and business English, operating practices of county government. procedures and methods including computer keyboard operation; English usage, grammar, punctuation and spelling; techniques for effective interpersonal communications.

Skill/Ability to: quickly learn State laws relating to activities and operations of the department, deal effectively with the public and governmental officials, understand and carry out oral and written instructions precisely; maintain confidentiality of information; establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; read and interpret documents such as rules, and procedure manuals; speak effectively in English; May be required to be bilingual English/Spanish; type 35 w.p.m. depending on area assigned; Must pass a background check .
