Senior Electrical Engineer

Overview of Role: 

Liquid Robotics is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team in the development of autonomous ocean robots and the associated hardware and accessories. By joining our small but highly-motivated team, you will be helping us achieve this goal by participating in electrical engineering design activities and working with cross functional teams to deliver world-changing products. This position will be responsible for executing electrical Hardware designs, firmware developments, and system designs for various subsystems that are incorporated into an autonomous ocean-going craft.  Designs include navigation subsystems, motor controllers, MEMS sensors, satellite/LOS communications, power systems (including solar power generation), embedded computers, etc.  This position is based in Herndon, Virginia and report to the Hardware Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities:

• Help define the overall electrical architecture for a next generation Autonomous Surface Vehicle
• Strong understanding of digital logic concepts
• Proficient in industry-standard simulation and synthesis tools, including ModelSim, Quartus, and Vivado
• Work with team members to define, design, document, test, and production release PCBA level solutions. This would include:
  • Schematic Entry
  • Component selection
  • Component Library Management
  • PCB Layout
  • Documentation release
  • Linking Native ECAD and MCAD Design Components
• Work with Software and Firmware engineers to define requirements and interfaces.
• Experience interfacing with sensors and systems using industry standard protocols such as RS232, UART, CAN, I2C, and SPI.
• Preparation and release of production documentation.  
• Work with other team members to improve the operation of products and solutions

Minimum Qualifications:

• BSEE or equivalent. Advanced degree strongly preferred.
• 5+ years’ experience with FPGA design using Verilog or VHDL
• 6 to 10 years of direct experience designing PCBA’s
• Direct experience working with embedded computers
• Experience using standard electronics lab test equipment
• Ability to develop embedded FW (C, C++).
• Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• RF knowledge is a big plus
