Workplace Readiness and Career Development Coordinator

The Company:

Young Men and Women In Charge (YMWIC) Foundation, Inc.’s mission is to empower and prepare economically disadvantaged and historically underrepresented youth to excel and become leaders through academic tutoring, mentoring and financial assistance programs. This is accomplished by leveraging alliances with K-12 school districts, universities, corporations, and the Foundation’s committed partners. YMWIC embraces a family model that provides individually targeted services: academic support and tutoring, leadership development, public speaking, junior mentoring, scientific research projects, college readiness and industry experiences in many STEM-related careers. The Foundation received its 501 c3 non-profit certification in 2010 to provide services to youth in third through twelfth grades in Philadelphia and suburban communities.

The Position:

The position requires a professional who is committed to providing mentoring and education services for underserved youth. This will be demonstrated through past work results and community service. The individual must be able to work in a fluid environment and be a creator in process. The understanding of grade level academic requirements in accordance with the Department of Education. The Workplace Readiness and Career Development Coordinator works closely with partnering academic and corporate leaders to obtain assessments, feedback and advisement to our staff, Scholars and parents.

The Workplace Readiness and Career Development Coordinator (WRCD) works directly with 3rd-12th grade and College Scholars in our Pre-College, Pre-Apprentice and Alumni Programs. The WRCD also supports our Summer STEM and Leadership programs and our Upward Bound Program. The duties listed below are crucial for the success of this position. The WRCD role shall have demonstrated experience as self driven and results oriented with a focus on scholars as well as flexible and accepting to changes.

Academic Readines by Scholar Group (3/4th,5th/6th, 7th/8th, 9th/10th, 11th/12th) Grades :

· Administer Scholar, Alumni and Parent coaching and preparedness sessions on the college application process.

· Administer semi annual assessments in ELA, Science and Math by Scholar Group.

· Provide input in case reports to reflect Scholar improvements and updates.

· Works closely with Project Coordinator to develop plans and support towards Scholar goals.

· Provide guidance and feedback on Elementary School, Middle School, High School and College readiness course selection requirements.

· Over see semi annual assessments and tool data in ELA, Science and Math by Scholar.

· Over-see senior Scholars College Application readiness milestones and tasks.

Job Shadowing and Internships (Paid/UnPaid)

· Responsible for the oversight, management and administration of the YMWIC Job Shadowing and internship Programs.

· Administrating resume writing, interviewing skills, personal branding training and coaching.

Pre-Apprenticeship

· Administer Scholar preparation system prior to executing Apprenticeship opportunities

· Plan and coordinate administering pre-eligibility job experiences for all eligible Scholars.

· Administer the Apprenticeship feedback system for all occurrences.

· Participate or lead recruitment events to attract candidates.

Alumni Relationship

· Administer Alumni tracking program to include: Scholarship Management, Academic Progress, Post -Graduate Retention, Job Readiness and Job Placement.

· Administering the management of timely receipt of Alumni Semester Grades, Transcripts and Rosters relative to timing requirements.

· Administer Alumni mental wellness programs that is supportive to Scholar’s success beyond graduation.

Additional tasks include but not limited to:

· Maintain already formed relationships with existing School Districts, Universities and Corporate partners on behalf of the YMWIC mission.

· Administers workshops by Scholar Program Group on:

- Academic preparedness

- College Essay process

- College readiness

- SAT/PSAT/Keystone Readiness

- FAFSA process

- College application process

Qualifications

· Interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and its role in today’s economy.

· Dependability, can-do attitude, responsibility and ability to work in fast changing environments.

· Superior communications both written and oral and a fun-loving personality.

· Ability to maintain positive relationships with parents, children, co-workers and clients.

· Eagerness to learn, create, tinker and comfortable with technology.

· Flexibility to work on weeknights and weekends, and also in various school district partner locations.

· Prior experience working with children & knowledge of Microsoft Office are essential.

· Knowledge of the education industry and / or experience in school administration, non-profit organizations or the extra-curricular educational industry (like day care, camps, after-school).

· Must be flexible and able to excel in an ambiguous and continuously changing, competitive environment.

· Work hours and location will vary to meet the needs of the business.

Compensation

· Salary position at a competitive rate based on education and experience.

Location: Main Office at YMWIC Foundation, Inc Corporate Headquarters; 1160 McDermott Drive, West Chester, PA 19380. Program Administration occurs at HQ and partnering School Districts located in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties
