This role is responsible for North American (NA) EHS matters associated with Seeds & Traits (S & T) sites. This role will also provide EHS service and expertise to S & T sites in North America. Major EHS responsibilities include leading EHS projects, developing and implementing EHS programs and tools for the NA S & T sites. Performing internal EHS Assessments and business EHS Audits. The EHS Specialist is the key EHS contact for multiple sites (breeding, trait development, seed production and processing, seed warehousing, seed research, greenhouses, lab research). Executing the implementation of EHS management systems across all S & T sites including but not limited to: Safe Work Permitting, Control of Hazardous Energy, Confined Space, Hot Work, Line Breaking, Incident Management and Reporting, MOC, HIRA, conducting training for site personnel among other activities.
This position requires approximately 25% travel.
Assisting sites in implementing EHS programs, taking care to ensure the program is appropriate (‘right type/right size’) for each site.
Developing, communicating, and executing a plan to perform EHS Audits & Assessments. Preparing reports and communicating results to appropriate stakeholders.
Performing Risk Assessments and/or teaching others to perform risk assessments. Identifying practical and effective mitigation measures to reduce risk. Communicating Risk Assessment results to appropriate stakeholders.
Providing EHS training to assist with program implementation and to enable others to also perform Risk Assessments.
Performing and/or supervising incident investigations employing evidence collection, appropriate interview techniques, computer forensics, statement collection, report writing, etc. Performing Root Cause Analysis and communicating findings to appropriate stakeholders.
Developing, planning, communicating, executing, and tracking progress (e.g., CapEx, EHS Initiative Launch etc. as needed basis).
Applying EHS regulatory knowledge to S & T sites to ensure legal compliance. This is an advisory role.
Have a high school diploma or equiva lent; Bachelor’s degree preferred .
Have hands-on relevant EHS experience; 5+ years is preferred, experience supporting multiple sites is beneficial.
Collaboration Skills to accomplish EHS goals via collaborative teamwork (e.g., peers, Regional EHS, Site Safety Contacts (SSC) and Site/Station Managers).
Strong (verbal and written) communication skills to communicate with openness, clarity, organizational awareness, and empathy to achieve desired results.
Customer focus skills to provide business customers in S & T with ‘right type/right size’ service, guidance, and expertise.
Influencing skills to know how to present data-driven EHS solutions to Site/Station Managers to achieve EHS business goals.
Efficiency & effectiveness mindset to know how to develop practical plans to implement EHS corporate policies and procedures ‘at scale’ for multiple seed processing and research sites.
Data analysis skills and experience using databases and electronic tools.
Incident investigation & root cause analysis skills.

BASF is committed to pay transparency practices. The competitive Pay Range for this role is $95,440 - $131,230. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
