About Us:

We are seeking a dedicated Assistive Technology Instructor to join our team. Our organization is committed to empowering children and adults who are blind and visually impaired to reach their fullest potential in daily living, education, and employment through the development of assistive technology skills.

Responsibilities:

Stay Informed: Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in assistive technology, including computer technology, mobile devices, braille embossers, products, wearable devices, and more (both hardware and software).

Technology Advocacy: Collaborate with our Technology Manager to create opportunities for sharing technology expertise through workshops, conferences, staff training sessions, agency tours, and other avenues.

Educational Programs: Assist in the development and implementation of engaging and educational programs for both adults and children across various programs. Maintain accurate documentation and cater to the unique needs of individual and group students. Provide classroom instruction within our technology center and contribute to participant recruitment efforts.

Continuous Learning: Continuously research technological advancements, new products, and applications. Attend relevant training and meetings to stay informed.

Quality Service: Ensure the provision of high-quality technology services to our consumers and adhere to established timelines.

Building Relationships: Foster professional and collegial relationships with school districts, other internal departments, funding/grant sources, and relevant organizations.

School Support: Provide technology services to visually impaired children in public/private school settings, including assessments, lesson planning, and reporting. Offer training and support to parents and caregivers when necessary.

Diverse Funding Streams: Deliver technology services through various funding streams, such as vouchered payments, in-kind services, private contracts, and grants.

Employee Support: Collaborate with internal departments to address the assistive technology needs of our employees, including assessments and training as required.

Community Engagement: Conduct informative community presentations on adaptive technology to raise awareness and facilitate outreach.

Technical Maintenance: Perform hardware and software maintenance and troubleshooting tasks as needed.

Documentation: Ensure timely completion and submission of all required documentation.

Adaptability: Be adaptable to changes and willingly undertake additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education: Minimum of an Associate's Degree in computer science, technology, or education preferred. Certificates in software or hardware applications may be considered in lieu of advanced degrees.

Experience: At least one year of experience in a teaching or training capacity is preferred.

Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in microcomputers and their operating systems. Knowledge of conventional hardware/software installation on both PC and Macintosh systems.

Software Skills: Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Familiarity with Google applications such as Docs and Sheets, as well as mobile device applications (iOS and Android). Willingness to learn new technologies.

Physical Requirements: Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations can be provided for individuals with disabilities.

The Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired is a not-for-profit agency dedicated to providing comprehensive vision rehabilitation programs to over 2,000 blind and visually impaired individuals in a nine-county area annually. Our services encompass independent living skills, orientation and mobility, low vision services, children's services, and continually expanding technology and employment programs. One facet of our employment services is Central Industries, our manufacturing division that helps support our agency's mission. Our ultimate goal is to assist people who are blind or visually impaired in achieving their highest levels of independence.
