Job description

bilingual Local Researcher

STATUS: Part time (up to 20 hours per week)
LOCATION: Rio Grande Valley, Texas

Do you want to help improve social service systems in the United States and beyond by making them more effective, equitable, and just? Are you ready to work for change? This role offers a lot of work schedule flexibility.

At Evident Change, we believe our social systems should help people reach their greatest potential, not create barriers to their success. That’s why we partner with systems professionals and communities to get to the root of their biggest challenges, and we give them the tools and knowledge to achieve better outcomes for everyone involved.

Evident Change, in partnership with several local organizations in the Rio Grande Valley, is currently conducting a multiyear study funded by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ; #2019-R2-CX-0015). This study will examine the community contextual factors, individual barriers, facilitators of involvement, and desistance of girls and young women associated with local gangs.

Evident Change has openings for part-time local researchers based in Texas’s Rio Grande Valley (e.g., Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy counties). These individuals will conduct in-person and virtual interviews with girls and young women who self-identify as being affiliated, involved, or associated with gangs in the community. The positions are expected to begin as soon as possible and go through December 2024.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

We are looking for candidates interested in using research to inform systems change and the opportunity to give a voice to traditionally overlooked or marginalized populations.  Our ideal candidate has (1) knowledge about the Rio Grande Valley from living in the region; (2) lived or learned experience engaging girls and young women who have been system impacted; (3) preferred experience completing community-based research activities such as interviewing participants, quantitative or qualitative analysis, providing study trainings, etc.; and (4) fluency in Spanish and English.

Preferred candidates should be seeking or have completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field .

The pay rate for this position is $25.55 to $28.12 per hour and is based on multiple factors, including experience. We offer paid sick leave, mileage reimbursement, and a monthly stipend (up to $50) to support our “work from anywhere” culture.
