POSITION SUMMARY:
This role will provide direct support and leadership to the Bridgeton Operations, R&D, Sales, and warehouse teams. The role will also include development and participation in corporate EHS programs to support other plants in the Balchem network. The position requires an experienced professional with excellent communication, organizational, and multi-tasking skills. This person should thrive in a changing and dynamic environment and possess the ability to direct, plan, establish, and implement a variety of programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees, plant facilities, and equipment. As the EHS Manager, they must ensure safe work conditions and practices exist that meet all applicable EH&S regulations and company policies. This position will coach site management and personnel on the recognition, elimination, and control of occupational hazards and environmental risks. Will help provide support to other sites within the organization, as necessary.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Establishes standards and methods of measuring environmental, health, and safety performance.
- Works closely with site and corporate EHS leadership to drive a zero-injury culture.
- Directly or through collaboration with the plant manager, coordinates case management for any and all EHS related incidents.
- Investigates accidents and incidents to determine the cause and recommend changes to work practices or equipment to minimize or eliminate future safety risks.
- Continually improves upon proactive safety processes to ensure effectiveness at reducing injury potential.
- Designs, implements and maintains EH&S programs and policies to minimize and eliminate safety risks and occupational hazards associated with work practices.
- Analyzes and evaluates current EH&S programs, policies, and practices to ensure they meet all current and proposed local, state, and national regulatory requirements.
- Establishes EHS monitoring programs to ensure all activities meet established requirements. Establishes methods for maintaining site records for occupational and environmental health and safety including documentation on training and certifications.
- Performs periodic safety inspections, behavioral observations, compliance audits in the plant.
- Coordinates and/or administers EHS-related training activities to ensure that all employees are aware of their EHS responsibilities and can operate in a safe and legal manner.
- Maintains/Improves current accident and incident reporting system for all employees.
- Conducts evaluations of exposure to noise, particles, gases, fumes etc., and recommends measures to ensure maximum employee protection.
- Works with outside safety organizations to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. When required serves as the primary contact responsible for assisting with EHS audits by these organizations.
- Prepares safety and compliance reports as required by management and outside organizations.
- Provides input on and participates in EH&S strategic planning for business.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an EHS-related Science, Engineering field, or 5+ years of manufacturing leadership experience with required EH&S experience.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience with an emphasis in EH&S program management. Experience within a plant under an OSHA PSM or Combustible Dust program is preferred.
- Experience implementing safety policies at the plant floor level and ensuring compliance to PPE requirements, line break, hot work, LOTO, elevated work, confined space, etc.
- Willingness to travel domestically up to 20%
- Demonstrated people management and team building skills and the ability to manage multiple projects/programs simultaneously.
- Positive and motivated self-starter with a successful track record in changing environment; excellent organizational, teamwork, and prioritization skills are essential.
- Ability to communicate with clarity, impact, and passion to help drive a growing EH&S program, and to collaborate across all levels of the organization to enable and drive change.
- Excellent written, verbal, listening, and presentation skills.
- Professional certification a plus
