Reporter

Location

Palo Alto, CA | United States

Job description

The Daily Post is seeking a reporter for the night shift (12-9 p.m.) who can cover a broad range of beats and juggle multiple stories. We want a reporter with a nose for news, who can manage their time, develop sources, is comfortable using digital resources and doesn’t give up when an official says “no comment.” In this job, if you’re asked to cover a government meeting, you should be capable of submitting a deadline story and, the next day, writing an in-depth piece with multiple sources. The successful candidate will have experience filing public information requests, and knowing how to respond when those requests are denied. We expect a reporter to be well-read and on top of the local news scene. The reporter should be prepared to handle any story that might come up. The reporter should produce clean copy that's tightly written. Do not apply if you got into this business to “change the world." If you got into journalism to advance a social or political cause, please go somewhere else. We’re looking for a reporter who keeps their opinions out of stories and strives for accuracy and fairness. Our staff is committed to getting all sides of a story. We prefer candidates from the Bay Area, particularly the Peninsula. Experience with InDesign is a plus. Please email a cover letter, resume and five of your best stories to Editor Dave Price at  [email protected] . Put “reporter” in the subject line.
