This position is a CONTRACT APPOINTMENT .
The Clinical Domestic Violence Specialist works in the Domestic Violence Intervention Program. Clinical Domestic Violence Specialists are responsible for providing consultation to child welfare staff at Child Welfare Contributing Agencies, to help ensure that issues of domestic violence are addressed. Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Domestic Violence Program Coordinator, Clinical Domestic Violence Specialists are responsible for providing DV program services to staff in their assigned region.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide domestic violence consultations
- Leads clinical staffings to address domestic violence and connected issues affecting families, working to help ensure child safety
- Provides clinical consultation regarding reports/cases to individual department staff or during clinical staffings,working with child protection and permanency staff to provide recommended domestic violence responsive interventions
Contributes to the development of a statewide domestic violence database
- Provides necessary records and documentation regarding Program progress, staff consultations and dispositions, staffing, court advocacy, training and services in the sub-region.
Contributes to ongoing planning, program development
- Works with the Program Administrator in ongoing planning, program development, and to indicate improvements for the Program
- Identifies and works with subject matter experts in the development or revision of existing programs, curricula or policy
- Provides, coordinates statewide and regionally based trainings that may be required to advance the knowledge and skill base of existing staff, new hires, foster parents and supervisors
Enforces departmental operating policies and procedures
- Interprets and enforces departmental operating policies and procedures
- Coordinates and facilitates family team meetings
- Works with department staff to increase Juvenile Court awareness and utilization of the Illinois Domestic Violence Act
- Works with staff to address confidentiality issues in coordinating services
- Identifies and develops working partnerships with relevant service providers
- Works in partnership with Prevention Resource Developer ( PRD ) staff to share information about staff performance or service gaps, policy or practice issues and to ensure overall success of the Domestic Violence Program ( DVP )
Collaborate with community partners
- Interacts with various constituencies in the domestic violence community, social workers, attorneys, court personnel, school counselors, hospital social service department, foster parent groups, and others.
Specialty Factors (Civil Service):
- Two (2) years of professional child welfare; and five (5) years (can be concurrent) in the domestic violence field
- Forty-hour Domestic Violence Training Certificate
- Experience in staff training and working with diverse client populations
Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service):
- Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:
A . college course work in behavioral science, social work, sociology, psychology, or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
B. work experience that provided a knowledge of human behavior by having demonstrated through public contact the ability to cope with a variety of people, (such as customer service, salesperson, or receptionist).
