POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Academic Advisor and Recruitment Coordinator
This position is a part of a 5-person advising team working to provide services to over 700 students in the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics (ACE). Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and bring unique interests that create a rich academic environment. Students work closely with their advisors in ACE to identify and pursue myriad opportunities in the department and on campus which allow them to develop personally, academically, and professionally. In addition to advising duties, this position will work closely with the vibrant College of ACES recruitment team to promote the department across our stakeholder groups. Our unit promotes lifelong learning and encourages our advising team to join pursue development opportunities that will enrich their professional lives and bring new ideas and perspectives to our team.
Be a part of our story. The Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics seeks candidates who will recruit, orient, and advise undergraduate students in the Department of ACE; lead undergraduate recruitment for the department, and teach professional development course and support student organizations related to subjects of emphasis. Specific responsibilities are detailed below.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Advise undergraduate students in key department concentrations with regard to curriculum requirements, course selection, registration, and post-graduation plans. Assist students with internships, job shadowing experiences, and experiential learning opportunities. Welcome and advise new students during summer registration program, including transfer students, and assist with course selection and curriculum planning.
- Working closely with administration, faculty, and staff within the department and the College of ACES, provide leadership for the undergraduate student recruitment activities for the department. Lead, manage, and direct recruitment events, prospective student visits, staffing of recruitment and outreach events, and development of recruitment materials. Independently develop and manage recruiting activities (student visits, materials, events) to grow the program and increase enrollment numbers. Recruit, train, and manage approximately 25 student ambassadors each semester to support recruitment and retention activities.
- Teach up to two one-credit hour courses in career exploration and professional development. POSITION REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree in agricultural economics, business, communications, or a related field
- At least two years of work experience in agribusiness, international business, academic advising, teaching or similar fields. Experience in organizing and managing program activities. Experience in preparing organizational communications. Preferred:
- Master's degree in one of the fields mentioned previously or Higher Education or related fields.
- Experience with data reporting/management. Experience with corporate and donor relations. Experience working in a university environment. Knowledge Required: Strong communications and interpersonal skills. Flexibility and strong problem-solving skills. SALARY AND APPOINTMENT DETAILS: This is a full-time 100%, 12-month Academic Professional appointment. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. The salary range for this position starts at $50,000.
