Summary/Objective:

Beta Bionics is a diabetes company dedicated to lowering the burden of diabetes through advanced automated insulin delivery systems. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Science Manager to lead our data science team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in diabetes, data science, machine learning, and analytics, with a focus on virtual patient simulators. Experience in developing user and product analytics will be a significant advantage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Team Leadership:

• Lead and mentor a team of data scientists, providing guidance, support, and fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.
• Set clear goals and expectations for the team, ensuring alignment with overall company objectives.
• Manage team for high value predictable output.

2. Project Management:

• Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of multiple data science projects simultaneously, including the development of virtual patient simulators and user/product analytics systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.

3. Virtual Patient Simulator Development:

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of virtual patient simulators to evaluate algorithms and changes to algorithms and their impact to diabetes control.

4. User and Product Analytics:

• Develop and implement strategies for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting user and product data.
• Create dashboards and reports to communicate insights and drive data-driven decision-making processes.

5. Model Development and Implementation:

• Guide the team in designing, developing, and deploying machine learning models and algorithms for both virtual patient simulation, product features and user/product analytics.
• Ensure the scalability and efficiency of models in AWS and analytics systems.

6. Data Governance and Quality:

• Establish and maintain data governance standards to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of data used in virtual patient simulators and analytics.
• Collaborate with data engineering teams to optimize data pipelines and storage for simulation and analytics purposes.

Work Location

• Five days a week, Monday through Friday, in the San Diego Office

Required Education and Experience

• Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience (5+ years) in a data science role with a track record of successful project delivery, including virtual patient simulator development and user/product analytics.
• Previous experience managing and leading a team of data scientists.
• Strong programming skills in Python.
• Solid understanding of machine learning algorithms, statistical modeling, and data manipulation techniques.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

• Experience with big data technologies and frameworks in AWS.
• Knowledge of AWS cloud platform.
• Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau).
• Previous experience in healthcare or medical simulation.

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment

• This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and scanners.

Physical Demands

• While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to be independently mobile. The employee is also required to interact with a computer, and communicate with co-workers.
• This position requires travel depending upon business needs.
• This position requires the ability to sit/stand at desk for several hours while performing iLet trainings.

Salary Range

$160,000.00 - $185,000.00
