OPS Registered Nurse Specialist TB/Refugee Health Program

The Department of Health in Pinellas has an OPS Registered Nurse Specialist position open in the TB/Refugee Health Program. The successful applicant will work primarily in the Refugee Health Clinic providing Health Assessments, Labs, introductions and education into the US health systems and provide children and adult immunizations in a fast paced environment. This position also requires a credentialing process for Refugee Health Assessments which includes hands on training and a passing exam within 90 days. This position will be located in the Refugee Clinic at the St. Petersburg Health Department. The successful applicant will evaluate clients in a variety of settings within the scope of Florida State and Federal guidelines.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Responsible for ensuring that all newly arriving refugees, asylees, parole’s and other Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) eligible immigrants complete the health screening and vaccination process in a timely manner. Provide culturally and linguistically appropriate health orientation and education for all newly arrived refugees, asylees and other ORR eligible immigrants. Strengthen collaborative relationships with refugee resettlement agencies and local health care providers to ensure that newly-arrived refugees, asylees and other ORR eligible immigrants understand and utilize the U.S. health care system; Ensures for efficient clinic patient flow; Initiates clinic client intake procedures, identifies client needs, and provides referrals and follow-up client education as ordered;

Assesses, plans and manages client care based on physical and laboratory findings in accordance with established program procedures and protocols; evaluates and interprets lab results. Compiles and evaluates patient’s health history, physical findings, and if necessary, initiates further diagnostic laboratory tests; Provides health education; Initiates treatment under a physician’s supervision or within the limits of established protocols; Completes appropriate referrals as needed; Provides nursing duties in the clinical and case management settings as assigned; Documents all observations findings and actions in the HMS database following established procedures while maintaining strict confidentiality at all times. Maintains communication with the program manager advising on status of clients.
