Job description
The SA is responsible for managing and updating the system and deploying, and supporting comprehensive solutions based on a client's unique and complex requirements and problems as they relate to the Windows, identity, and directory services infrastructure. They are also responsible for identifying opportunities for the automation of tasks, processes, or entire solutions and acting on them, as well as identifying any opportunities for improvement in the environment.
Additionally, the SA works with the Cybersecurity team ensuring that the AD/Windows infrastructure is documented, maintained, and ready for risk assessment as part of a system accreditation process; this involves scanning, patching, and documenting the production AD/Windows infrastructure.
GENERAL DUTIES:
- Manages Active Directory/Windows infrastructure/domains; plans and executes AD platform upgrade activities.
- Able to troubleshoot issues in Active Directory, Groups Policies, etc. and rebuild DCs when needed.
- Configures, maintains, and administers AD directory services, Windows domain infrastructure, change/adjust STIGs with use of updated ADMX/ADML files.
- Administration of organizational units (OU) and server/user security through group policies, administration of domain global groups and local groups, domain user accounts, overall AD forest and domain optimization.
- Use of PowerShell scripting for AD administration tasks.
- Participate in or lead troubleshooting and incident resolution of complex high severity incidents.
- Provisions and loads PKI certificates on servers.
- Coordinates system hardware and software testing with development teams to ensure transparent implementation and appropriate capacity.
- Coordinates and performs operating system (OS)/firmware upgrades, patch and vulnerability management for OS and application software.
- Investigates and proposes solutions for development and customer needs to improve reliability, continuity, and maintainability for Windows systems hardware and software.
- Monitors and ensures that backup data and resilience methods are scheduled and functioning appropriately.
- Installs, upgrades, maintains and services infrastructure software such as AD, VMWare, Windows Server, etc.
- Models potential changes within the systems architecture and provides gap analysis regarding the need for tuning or changes that will enhance system performance.
- Accurately log, ticket, and provide timely follow-up on all requests and incidents using the ITSM system.
- After hours on-call support for critical/high issues.
- Updates management and project leadership for ongoing critical/high issues.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field (High School Diploma and equivalent technical experience and certification may be used in lieu of BS Degree).
- 8+ years’ experience in a technical IT role; 10+ years without BS Degree.
- 6+ years’ system administration or engineering experience including:
- Windows Server (2019, 2016, or 2012r2)
- Active Directory infrastructure (deployment/upgrades)
- Group Policy administration/Windows security
- VMWare Server Virtualization
- Have or obtain requisite DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security + CE) within 60 days of beginning position.
- Work on-site due to classified system requirements.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated technical competency as a System Administrator on a Windows domain responsible for Active Directory infrastructure.
- Familiar with administration of VMWare 6.x, managing hosts and virtual machine resource allocation (CPU, memory, hard disk, network interface).
- Patch management using multiple tools (SCCM, WSUS, etc.).
- Proficient with DoD security assessment/hardening tools (STIG, SCAP, checklists, Nessus, etc.).
- Experience developing scripts in PowerShell, VBScript, JavaScript, Python, or other languages to develop automated solutions.
- Network communication experience is a plus.
- Storage area network experience is a plus.
- Strong oral and written communications skills.
- High level of professionalism and customer service.
- Ability to coordinate and lead multiple projects at one time.
- Ability to apply knowledge of current industry standard systems architectures
- Strong critical thinking skills that facilitate expedient problem-solving.
- Other desired skills: VMWare Horizon VDI, Veeam, SolarWinds, NetApp SAN, HP Blade, Network Administration.
