GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
The faculty member will play a pivotal role in nurturing student learning by delivering dynamic coursework within the Kirkwood undergraduate speech/communication curriculum. This role involves a teaching load of five courses per semester, encompassing both online and face-to-face classes across various locations, including the main campus in Cedar Rapids and regional centers. Teaching assignments are designated by the dean. The faculty member will be responsible for comprehensive evaluation and reporting of student performance and progress in alignment with departmental, divisional, and college policies. Additionally, the candidate is expected to be active in curriculum assessment to enhance student learning within the discipline, the Liberal Arts program, and the broader college community. Participation in service activities and non-teaching activities that contribute professional expertise to departmental, Liberal Arts program, and college-wide initiatives is also required. The faculty member will be committed to achieving the goals and objectives outlined in an individualized Professional Preparation Plan as part of the College's Quality Faculty Plan. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Effectively organize and teach courses in communication, including Fundamentals of Oral Communication and Public Speaking in accordance with established and/or developed syllabi.
- Use varied delivery formats and methods to teach across locations and modalities according to assigned work schedules.
- Evaluate, record, and share student performance and progress on a regular basis, adhering to departmental and college policies.
- Maintain current course syllabi for all courses taught, filing a current copy at the beginning of each term with the department.
- Conduct a minimum of five established office hours each week to provide academic support and guidance to students.
- Make appropriate student referrals to other college personnel, such as the dean, counselor, and Financial Aid, as necessary for specialized information and assistance.
- Attend discipline, departmental, and division meetings to contribute to the academic community and stay informed of relevant developments.
- Ensure compliance with required trainings as designated by the dean.
- Perform other related work duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to the overall success of the department and college.

- Enhance the profile of the communication discipline both within the college and with the broader community, contributing to the institution's visibility and reputation.
- Provide opportunities for growth and development by mentoring and collaborating with students outside of the classroom, for example through club sponsorship, extracurricular activities, or honors projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Communication Studies or in a closely related area with substantial coursework in communication from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Demonstrated experience designing curriculum for and effectively teaching and/or working with persons from underrepresented and diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working/learning environment.
- Successful college teaching experience is essential.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS :
- Ph.D. in the discipline preferred.
- Community college teaching experience preferred.
- Strong commitment to antiracist, decolonial, queer, feminist, and culturally sustaining pedagogies.
