About the Community - Zuni, New Mexico
Zuni Pueblo is the largest of the nineteen New Mexican Pueblos, covering more than 700 square miles and has a population of over 10,000 inhabitants. Additionally, they are considered the most traditional of all New Mexico Pueblos with a unique language, culture and history which is due in part to its geographic isolation. The people and their families who have endured throughout the years here have shown their resiliency and endurance to be as strong as their building material; centuries of creating homes and buildings with adobe, sandstone, wood, cement, glass and even steel are a part of Zuni Pueblo's legacy which stand strong to this day.

bout the Facility - The Zuni Service Unit
The Zuni Comprehensive Community Health Center serves the Zuni, Ramah and McKinley area of New Mexico. It provides a wide variety of inpatient, outpatient and community health services which recognizes the need of attention and care to the health and wellness of the people surrounding it. General Medical Services include: Emergency Room services (24/7), Inpatient General Medical Service (adult and pediatric) Obstetrics - Labor and Delivery Outpatient Services, Optometry, Pharmacy, Labor Services, Radiology Services, Mental Health, Tele-Renal Management, Anti-Coagulation Clinic as well as Preventative Health Services such as Well Baby Clinic, Women's Health, Dental Health, Public Health Nursing, Palliative Care, Immunizations, Podiatry, Physical Therapy, Nutrition, Integrated Medicine and Acupuncture.

Dietician RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)

• ssists in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the diabetes and other outpatient programs including nutrition services as part of the Innovations in Planned Care.
• Reviews, selects, develops, and disseminate suitable educational and counseling materials on normal and therapeutic nutrition for clients, community and for gestational diabetic clients.
• ssists with explanation of program and research findings to the Indian Health Service, Indian community and educational and allied groups concerned with the control and prevention of Type 2 diabetes.
• Provides medical nutrition therapy to individuals and nutrition education to groups in outpatient or community settings directed at control of diagnosed diabetics and other disease prevention.
• Conducts nutritional assessment of clients, developing nutritional care plans with them and their families consistent with cultural, social, and physiological requirements.
• Plans for, and participates in group teaching and training for clients, staff, and community members to expand services and increase public awareness of control and prevention of diabetes.
• Provides consultation to professional and paraprofessional staff concerning diets and nutrition; records information in medical records regarding nutritional requirements, patient's progress, education, follow-up, etc.

Dietician REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The education program must have been accredited by the ACEND, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietician positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation.
• Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND for dietitians or nutritionists.
• Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
