Job Description General Purpose of Job :
The Injury Prevention Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an advanced practice nurse who will coordinate and provide injury prevention activities within the realm of a clinical nurse specialist. Activities will be focused on preventable injuries based on trends identified within the trauma registry and regional epidemiological data.
Essential Duties :
This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Provide injury prevention activities to trauma patients and the community in a variety of local community locations. Examples include elderly fall prevention, STOP THE BLEED\u2122 programs, firearm safety programs, distracted driving safety.
- Develop relevant injury prevention materials and programs with specific objectives, and ability to measure the success of each after implementation.
- Utilize expertise as a CNS within the role to support the initiatives and goals of the department.
- Demonstrate partnerships with community organizations to support injury prevention activities, i.e., local EMS, law enforcement, safety councils, healthcare organizations, regional trauma advisory committee (RTAC).
- Coordinate ATLS courses for Sparrow staff and the region.
- Participate in regional and state injury prevention initiatives through Michigan Trauma Coalition and our local trauma Region 1.
- Choose effective intervention strategies which are evidence-based, with appropriate adaptation and sensitivity to demographic, generational, cultural and religious differences.
Job Requirements General Requirements • Current license as a registered nurse and APN in Michigan.
• CNS certification.
• Valid driver's license.
• ATLS coordinator status required within 6 months of hire.
Work Experience • Minimum two years of teaching experience required.
• Minimum three years of experience in specialty area.
• Previous experience analyzing data and developing relevant educational materials - preferred.
• Experience evaluating the effectiveness of programs and adapting to changing audiences/locations preferred - preferred.
Education • Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) with Clinical Nurse Specialist focus.
• Clinical competency in nursing care of trauma or patients.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills • Strong interpersonal, professional communication skills necessary. Ability to use a variety of software applications for teaching purposes.
• Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.
