This position promotes and supports the learning experience of Marian University students by, coordinating accessibility resources for students with disabilities, coordinating testing arrangements for English language learners, providing academic support to include: test-taking skills, managing test anxiety, communicating with faculty, and coordinating the Peer Tutor Program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Administrative Services – 45%
- Coordinate the implementation of academic accommodations by facilitating ongoing communication with students, faculty and staff.
- Maintain current knowledge of the disability services field through regular attendance at national and state conferences. Maintain professional memberships that provide information and guidance for best practices and important issues related to the field of higher education and disabilities. Retain current knowledge and resources regarding Section 504 and ADA – as amended requirements.
- Serve as contact for accessing information about Section 504/ADAA compliance. Respond to requests from state and federal agencies about services and research requests/surveys. Maintain current knowledge of emerging issues in disability services.
- Work to challenge negative stereotypes and misconceptions surrounding students with disabilities. Promote social justice and accessibility as part of Marian University’s mission and core values. Promote disability education and awareness of pertinent issues campus wide.
- Create and maintain a complete and accurate Accessibility Resources Policies and Procedures Handbook.
- Maintain confidential student records to include: Medical documentation; requests for academic accommodations; utilization of academic accommodations and, all written and verbal communication surrounding a student with an identified disability.

- Facilitate opportunities for students with disabilities to formally and informally evaluate programs and services. Feedback is reviewed and used to identify strengths and weaknesses in policies, procedures and practices.
- Provides program budget oversight.
- Gather data, compile information, and prepare summary reports regarding program activities, services and student outcomes.
- Provide disability/accessibility representation on relevant campus committees.
Advising – 25%
- Serve as an advocate for students with disabilities to ensure equal access. Provide information to students regarding legal rights and responsibilities. Support an inclusive and accessible educational environment for individuals with disabilities. Provides program budget oversight.
- Determine individualized accommodation plans for students with disabilities based upon students’ self-report, documentation and professional judgment.
- Advise students with disabilities regarding evaluation, documentation, accommodations, and other disability-related issues. Consult with parents, prospective students, and high school counselors about support services, accommodations and transitioning to the University.
Academic Support – 25%
- Provide academic assistance to all Marian University students by coordinating the Peer Tutor Program, which includes: Evaluating tutor requests; communicating with faculty to facilitate the identification and hiring of high quality tutors; establishing tutor matches and monitoring effectiveness; monitoring class and tutor session attendance and, maintaining Peer Tutor Program data.
- Provide academic support to all students, including but not limited to, test anxiety, test taking strategies, time management, organization, problem-solving, and self-monitoring/self-advocacy.
- Communicate information regarding program activities and services to students. Facilitate students’ identification of learning strengths and referral to available resources and services for help in areas needing improvement.
- Monitor student progress through regular communication and outreach. Evaluate student achievement toward degree completion. Assist students in evaluating the effectiveness of accommodations and redefining strategies for success.
- Maintain a positive work environment by cooperating in a professional manner with the University community as outlined in the Marian University Mission and Core Values.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES – 5%
- Performs other work related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field required and three years of disability/accessibility, student support, or closely related experience; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the above duties.
- Confidentiality/maintaining student records.
- Experience with data collection and analysis.
- Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, analytical, organizational, time management, planning and multi-tasking skills, and problem-solving skills.
- Maintains a professional relationship with academic deans, department chairs, university administrators, faculty and staff.
- Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office products.
- Ethical comportment and high regard for confidentiality.
- Willingness to support the mission and core values of the University.
