OUR MISSION:

Back in ’79 it was tough for brothers Kurt and Rob Widmer to find beer that they enjoyed drinking. So, they took it into their own hands and began home brewing for themselves and their friends. Kurt and Rob decided to do what most people only dream of: quit their jobs and turn their beer hobby into a vocation. So, they scrounged up equipment from wherever they could, including a dairy tank turned mash tun, a shrimp cooker turned whirlpool and a 1970 Datsun pickup truck “borrowed” from their dad. Cobbling it all together, they built the Widmer Brewing Company in an industrial part of NW Portland, what is now the Pearl District.

In 1986 the Widmer Brothers created the first American-style Hefeweizen or Hefe, which is translated from German as ‘yeast wheat’. If you ever run into the Widmer Brothers, make sure you pronounce their beloved beer as they intended, “hey-fuh”.

Today Hefeweizen is Oregon’s favorite craft beer and continues to win awards at national beer festivals including a Bronze at The Great American Beer Festival. The Widmer Brothers Brewery continues to crank out new beers and is the leader in Oregon’s innovative craft beer scene.

HOURLY RATE: $28.36/hr.

SCHEDULE: (This role will start on nights)

• 24/7 operation, nights required
• 2 week rotation
• Week 1: Wednesday and Thursday
• Week 2: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday
• All Shifts (6:00pm - 6:00am)

Shift Differential:

• 6pm - midnight = $2/hr.
• Midnight - 6am = $2.50/hr.

Widmer Brewery is looking for a Brewing Lead to join our Brewing team in Portland, OR! Reporting to the Brewing Manager and Brewmaster, our Brewing Leads are responsible for working alongside and leading a team of brewers while crafting, brewing, and processing high-quality products while engaging in all aspects of packaging and brewing.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Support the Company's Vision, Mission and Values
• Lead a team of 1-5 brewers in all aspects of the brewing and beer processing
• Work as a part of the brewing team to achieve desired quality and production targets
• Oversee Inventory and quality management of raw materials
• Assist with arrangement of brewing and processing schedule to ensure timely execution of weekly brews and beer availability to packaging lines
• Monitor progress of beer through production cycle via brewery information system; assist in maintaining and collating brewing data and record keeping
• Work with other departments throughout the brewing, canning, racking and packaging process
• Other duties as assigned throughout the brewery to assist other departments as needed to accomplish organizational goals

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree or coursework in a science discipline or engineering is desirable, or equivalent years of experience
• A General Certificate or Diploma in Brewing from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling or similar institution preferred
• 3-5 years in-depth brewing industry experience; prior supervisory experience preferred
• Attention to detail and patience for brewing process to achieve high standards of quality
• Must be able to work flexible shifts with varying hours, including nights
• Must be proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook…)
• Packaging experience preferred
• Maintenance experience preferred
