What role you will play in our team

Origination Risk Manager will be the primary interface between Trading Risk & Compliance and the Origination team. They will work closely with Finance and Trading Management, in particular the Origination VP, to provide advice and support and ensure from a TR&C perspective that Origination opportunities are appropriately assessed and, if captured, migrated into the Trading books.

The position reports to the Trading Risk & Compliance Manager and initially will have no direct reports. However, it is expected that reports will be added as the Origination group grows staffing, deal volume and deal complexity

What you will do

During opportunity pursuit

• Ensure TR&C is aware of opportunities and prepared to bring in, monitor and report on them timely once captured
  • Operations – Impacted areas include systems, VaR, exchanges, curves, reporting
  • Market Risk – Ensure reporting, monitoring and analysis are enabled once migrated
  • Quantitative Analytics support for valuation and modelling by the Trading Quantitative Analytics group is incorporated during pursuit and after capture
  • Regulatory & Compliance – Identify any issues impacting external reporting or obligations and manage them over the life of the deal
• Vet assumptions regarding risk, exposures and value are consistent and reasonable and risks are communicated clearly and completely to Management during the pursuit phase and thereafter
• Coordinate with other areas of Finance to ensure they have been consulted and incorporated as needed
• Any other issues affecting Market Risk and Compliance are fully identified and incorporated into opportunity assessments

Once opportunities are captured, manage their transition for TR&C to active oversight and during the life of the deal ensure linkages are maintained and TR&C responsibilities are fully met by the various TR&C teams (Risk, Quantitative Analytics, Operations and Regulatory & Compliance).

About you

Skills and Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has a strong finance/ IT background and has the following qualifications:
Academic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or above (Master's, MBA or Ph.D.) in Economics, Finance, Mathematics or Statistics

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

Technical

• 8+ years of experience in finance, financial derivatives and risk evaluation
• Experience in energy origination, trading or risk management including a strong understanding of derivatives – swaps, futures, cracks, spreads, basis elements, structure, fix/floating exposures, etc. 
• Strong understanding of and experience working with trading/energy market fundamentals and assessing probability of outcomes
• Understanding of financial options and real options such as volume balancing, look back and carry forward pricing, exchange elements, book outs, 3P sleeves, FOB/origination determination etc. 
• Good understanding of decision analysis techniques, return analysis, and statistical and economic modelling of scenarios involving risk and uncertainty

Managerial

• Experience leading and developing global teams
• Attention to detail with a strong process execution focus
• Strong leadership, communications skills, and presence in discussions with senior management
